My game doesn't seem to be improv- ing, but I sure enjoy walking around it. Let's hope the weather stays nice through September, On Juniors' day this week Matt Buchanan was the win- ner, with David Almasi se• cond, and David Brown third. Best putter was John McDonough; while John Freeman and Tian Connelly did the best chipping. On men's night, August lith, Tony Bedard had low gloss, with low net going to Don Heit and closest to the pin on No. 2 was Lloyd Schoenhals. First' ht winners were: Bili T empson, Bob, McDougall and Stan Connel- ly; second flight went to Bill Brown, Bob Dempsey and Marcel Richard; third flight winners were: Stew Huyck, Don Fuller and Bob Cor- rigan. Last Wednesday the Men's Annual was a great success as it boasted 160 entries. Also the Ingo* "'^" lid usproud Golfers at Boma competed recently for the Men's Field Day !Fired Halls Memorial Trophy. Brian Reeve Of Sunset took low gross of the day, after a sudden death play-off against Mike Kilkenny from Ingersoll. Brian shot a great round of golf with a score of 70. Low net for the day was won by our own Bob Cor- rigan with a net of 60. Other Sunset winners were: first .flight, Bob .. Greer; second flight, Paul Baechler, Dave McAdam, Stan Connelly, Ken Hall; third flight, Pete Teichert, Don Heit, Bill Youngblut, Bob Dempsey; Kerry Willows, Gary Duffy, Marty Buchanan, ' Rick Whetstone, Don Fink, Tom Moore, Jim Crawford; fourth flight, Don Fuller, Steve Buchanan, Harold McPherson; Stew Huyck, Bill . Chisholm and Ron Bushell. Congratulations to all! Last Thursday night the ladies all enjoyed a barbecue after their game. • It was nicg having Ev Evers in our midst again. Ev is a former member of Sunset now living near Kin- cardine, but is still golfing great as she was first lady in flight one, with Verna Kane second; second flight went to Mary Ann Dempsey, Ellen Connelly, Joan McDougall and Mary Lynne Telford; third flight winners ' were Claris Reeve (who shot a great game) Isabel McDonald, Grace Sale, Bet- ty Helesic and Marilyn Graham, while Diane Little (nice golfing Diane! ) Dorothy Bourdeau, Pat Wilkinson, Velma Haylow and Ruth Bushell were the fourth flight winners. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Maitland Country Club news In recent men's golf play at the Maitland Country Club, 35 men competed. Winners were: Don Stewart, Jack Hinton, Don Edward, John Kane, Ken Hunter, Bill McKellar. The draw winners were Ralph Neville and George Parsons. On August 11, there was a Ladies Night with 28 com- peting. First flight winners were Maxinne Martin for low gross, Shellagh Sully for low net, and Marie Huff for putts; second flight, Bess Smith and. Marg Evans for low gross, and Jean Hanly for low net; third°fliOt, Vern Frith for low gross and Mary Lapaine for putts; fourth flight, Marily James for low gross, Pat Tyndall for low net, adn Isla Stewart for putts. Bess Smith surpassed all when she had a low gross 92, low net of 64 for the field and least number of putts for the field. Congratulation Bess. The ladies then went to Maryln James' home for fun and games. Seven couples played on Sunday, August 16 and the winners were Doris Paquette and John Kane. Don't forget couples two -ball with dinner at the. Bedford Hotel on Friday August 28. The Hoffmeyers Little' Plumbers won their first game of their best two out of three Midwestern . Ladies Fastball. League playoff series against Moorefield hereon Friday by a score of .8-0. Pitcher Darlene Bostock allowed only two hits off the Hilltops .and struck out nine batters. It wasn't until the 4ourth inning that the Little Plumbers began scoring. Sandy Ituwe opened the inning with a triple. and was batted in by Sue Kolkman's- fly, ,put to centre that was. missed:- Diane Snell then hit and a Moorefield error allowed Kolkman to score. Marie Brindley then brought squirts completeseason with 2-0 win in Clinton, giants clinch first place. The Goderich Squirts travel team completed their season last Monday with a 2- 0 win in Clinton. Centre -forward Mark Armstrong scored both goals . for Goderich, who dominated play through most of the game This win avenged the only setback the , Squirts experienced, a 1-0 loss to Clinton the previous week. in Squirt House League action last week, the Raiders movedinto sole possession of third place with an upset 2-1 win over " league -leading Giants. Inside -right Paul Hamilton was in particularly sharp form and scored both goals:,for the Raiders. Centre -half Chris Erb replied with a, single goal for the Giants. In the second game, the Vikings held on to second place by tieing with the Bombers 1-1. Centre -half Corey Adams scored for the Vikings, while inside -left Chad Papple tallied for the last place Bombers. As a result of this game, Coach Dan I McCallum's Giants have clinched first place in the league standings with one week of play remaining.. _ Snell home for the 3-0 lead. Heidi Elliott scored one in the seventh inning to made it 4-0, then the team exploded in. the eighth for four runs from Snell, Diane Melick, Rowe, andKolkman.
