(Jason Ainslie) Only four teams havesure spots The Goderich ME. 'a- pitch o-pitch regular schedule is winding down. With only 23, games and two weeks left we find that only four teams have clinched a play-off spot, only two teams are out of the' running and the re- maining 12 teams are still fighting it out, to determine which eight will advance. All first round play-off series are scheduled to com- mence Monday, August 17 with the eventual league champions playing up to 15 games between then and the third week in September. No game beyond the first round will be played on a diamond without a fence unless we have rain -outs to fit in. Let's take a closer look at some of the races. In C Division, first and se- cond place are locked in by Cobras and Tickers respec- tively: Bluewater Centre moved from »fifth to third place with two key victories this week; a 14 - 10 decision over Selinger and a close 16 - 14 victory over Tickers. ' In those two games, Larry McGregor, John Duckworth and Tom Costello all frit 6 for 7 producing 14 runs to help the Bluewater cause. The Renegades kept the race tight with an 8 - 4 victory over Champco, but with only one game remaining, find themselves in a holding pat- Lucknow team wins lawn bowling tournament Despite cloudy skies and the odd shower during the morning, the sun finally brokethrough and shone on' the crowd ” of avid lawn bowlers seen on the God erich bowling greens. There were many from the surrounding area and as far away as Kitchener, all competing for the prize money. There were 36 ladies and men having a most enjoyable afternoon. The prizes were as follows: first prize went to the J. MacDonald team from Lucknow, second prize to the R Gillette team from Kit- chener, third W. Newcornbe team from Clinton, fourth R. Robinson, Mitchell, and fifth, the F. Tilley team from Seaforth. Another Seaforth team, C. Reith, captured the GUARANTEED INVESTMENT CERTIFICATES 18%, BRUCE ERSKINE 86 North 524-1555 consolation prize. Another mixed tour- nament is scheduled on August 15 at 1:3ff at the green.: on Picton Street. Ladies, don't forget the Fun Day August 21. Mark it on you calendar and make it a success as it is the last one for this year. tern, this week. Should Selinger Wood defeat either or both Champ - co and Tickers this week, then the Renegade - Selinger battle for fourth would be decided when they clash on August 12. Bluewater, with a victory over Champco or Cobras could sew up third place. In B Division, the Oldtimers secured a play-off position with an 18 - 3 victory over the local. Carlow, with a game in hand on the Oldtimers, could tie them for first with a victory over the Optimists; but that won't be easy since the Optimists still have a shot at first place. Smiths, dropping two games this week; .18 - 7 to Carlow and 13 - 4 to Wheelsmen are now . tied with the Wheelsmen for fourth place. Should they re- main tied, Wheelsmen would advance on the strength of their two victories over Smiths. There is an outside chance that they could both make it, but that would re- quire the Optimists' help. Not to be outdone, the A Division provides the closest race. Meneset, with an 18 and 1 record, have a well deserved first place finish. The Leafs, losing for the se-. cond time this year to Garb & Gear are now only one point up on Port Albert but the Bulldogs have two games in hand. Firemen, Coyotes . and TOWN OF GODERICH PUBLIC MEETING The Town of Goderich Waterfront Commit- tee is having a public meeting to discuss the WATERFRONT PARKS MASTER PLAN STUDY All persons interested in the future of the Town of Goderich and its waterfront are urged to attend the meeting to be held at the MacKay Centre for Seniors, North Street; at 7:30 p.m. on August 111, 1981. The Town's consultants, Knox, Martin, Kretch Limited will present the first draft of the Master Plan. For further information, please contact the Com- missioner of Works, Mr. Ken Hunter at 524-9492. Mrs. Elsa Hayden Chairman, Town of Goderich Waterfront Committee Garb & Gear are in a three way tie for fourth. Although all three teams have mo- points than `the other - teams in the league, two of them will not advance t—, the play-offs. The Firemen still have. a game in hand on Coyotes and two games on Garb & Gear. The Firemen's last two games of the schedule will be Team Meneset Signal Star Port Albert Firemen Coyotes Garb & Gear Oldtimers Carlow Optimists Wheelsmen Smiths Local 1863 Cobras Tickers Bluewater Renegades Selinger Champco against.these:twoteams. The icemen, by . their record, ;would seem to be the favorites to, advance but street talk has the Coyotes going on. Personally, I wouldn't rule out Garb & Gear yet. If Dick Madge has another grand slam up his sleeve, then Meneset could be in trouble Thursday night. Tom 'O'Brien singled and both scored when Mike Donnelly singled. Donnelly wound up at third following a walk. Dean Doherty scored on a double steal. C.C. addeda runin the sixth when Rob Standen and Brian Shewfelt singled. Third baseman. Donnelly helped make the .lead stand up by making a diving grab off Brian Sowerby recovering in time to nip Sowerby at first. Rob Plunkett gave up seven hits in taking the loss.
