Lawn bowlers hold
mixed tournament
The Goderich lawn bowl-
ing club celebrated July 1„
with a mixed tournament,
and with lovely weather and
keen conipietitioa, everyone
present hada good day.
The prize winners were as •
follows: the Seaforth entry
of Bill Brown and partner
took first; Fred Tilley and
partner second; third pinze
went to another Seaforth
team of Art Finlayson and
partner; and fourth . raze
went to Elmer Murray and
pater (roil Clinton.
Teams from Luc know,
Forest and Goderich also
took part in this annual event
sponsored by Victoria and
Grey Trust
On June 25 three teams of
ladies doubles played in Ex-
eter
xeter with the second prize go -
ling to Willa Williams skip
and May Richardson lead.

plate to save a nm that
might have won the game. In
the bottom of the seventh

until the ninth when Bob
Johnson scored Wayne
Kennedy with the winner.
Bogie took credit forthe win,
pitching two shutout innings
in relief while Jim Martin
took the lass. George Sutton
and Bogie each bad three
hits for French John Warr
was the top G and P batter
with four hits.

In other action Wed-
nesday, Gords defeated
McGee Pontiacs 4-3. Gords
opened the scoring in, the
first inning on Myles Mair-
doch's double and Jim
Ginn's single. They added
two more in the second on
runs- scoring doubles by Bob.
Riehl and Warren Watt.
McGees added single runs in'
the third and fifth innings.
Riehl scored what proved
to be the winner in the sixth,
scoring on an error. McGees
got one back in the seventh
on Ron Klage's RBI double
but had their hopes disap-
pear when Klages was
thrown out on the basepaths.
However, Klages continued
his hot hitting with three hits
while Murdoch, Riehl and
Phil Petrie had two hits
apiece for Gords. Des
Courtney was the winning
pitcher and Ken Deter took
theloss.
LAKEPORT WINS
Lakeport Advertising won
three close games in
Industrial League action this
week. On Tuesday they
defeated Green -and Parent
4-3. Lakeport opened the
scoring on a single by Len
Karmen followed by run -
scoring doubles by Bill
Gallow and Greg Hansen.
Green and Parent countered
with a tan in the second on
singles by Jim Martin and
Walter Bell. Lakeport got a
run in the second on doubles
by Arnie Parker and Ron
Corriveau and another in the
third on Al Sygrove's RBI
triple.
G and P. used singles by
Martin and Steve Frayne
and two Advertising errors
to score two runs in the
bottom of the third. That
dosed the gap to 4-3 and G
and P threatened again in
the fifth with two on and no-
one out. Simon Langlois then
releieved Parker and
recorded the save, striking
out five in three innings of
relief.
On` Wednesday, Langlois
struck out 10 batters in
defeating French 3-2. Pit-
chers
itchers dominated the first
five innings with Don Bogie
and Langlois matching
zeroes. French opened the
scoring in the sixth when
Wayne Kennedy singled for
his third hit of the night and
scored on Phil Turner's
double. Turner then scored
on Bob Johnson's single.
Lakeport replied with three
runs in their, half of the sixth
when Hansen was hit by a
pitch and Langlois tripled.
Rick Duckworth reached
base on errors to score
langlois and Wayne Doak
knocked in Duckworth with
the winner. Bogie pitched a
strong game holding
Lakeport to just four hits.
On Sunday, Al Sygrove
knocked home Greg Hansen,
with two out in the seventh as
Lakeport defeated Bedford
Hotel 3-2. The Dukes opened

In the seventh, Hansen
was hit by a pitch, Langlois
moved him to second and
Sygrove knocked him home
with a single to centre.
Langlois became the pitcher
of decision by recording the
last out in the seventh
although Parker retired the
other 20.ots. Parker allowed
only six hits, three of them
by Cruickshank while
Plunkett and Ron Austin
shared the mound duties in
theloss.
STEELERS WIN THREE
Lakeport Steel continued
their dominance of the
Industrial League defeating
Gords 11-1 in. five innings,
Bedford Hotel 13-0 and
French 2-0.
' Against Gords, Lakeport
used some timely hits to help
their victory. They opened
the scoring in the first.pn a
three -rain homer by Bruce
Bowman and an RBI triple
by Carm Fielder. They blew
the game open in thethird on
Wayne Draper's three -run
homer and Frank Hagan's
single. Gords got one hack on
Phil Petrie's single but
Lakeport added three in the
fifth to end the game. Brian
MacKenzie gave up seven
hits in recording the win
while Des Courtney, pitching
his seventh game of the
week, took the loss.
In their win over the
Dukes, Lakeport managed
just five hits but drew' nine
walks and forced four
Bedford errors in piling up 13
runs. Neither team hit well
but the defence was Brian
MacKenzie, who has pitched
well this year. He allowed

only four hits and did not
walk a batter. He has only
one loss this season.
On Monday, Iakeport
overcame a fine per-
formance by Don Bogie in
defeating French 2-0. Bogie
the fearsome Lakeport at-
tack
ttack to five hits. However,
one of them was a homer by
Lloyd Tigert to lead off the
fifth. Lakeport added an
insurance run when Ron
Miller singled and scored on
Bruce Bowman's sacrifice.
That proved to be enough as
Brian MacKenzie three an
impressive seven -hit
shutout.
