New building for Huron Museum Huron County Council decided at their June meeting last Thursday to apply for a Wintario grant for the building program \o replace the Huron County Pioneer Museum.. Ray Scotchmer, curator of the museum, said he • would prefer a cement and steel structure to replace the present building and will be submitting a sketch with the Wintario application. A 'decision to replace the present building was made by the county's property committee when part of the roof collapsed at the museum last winter . because of the heavy snow. The problem is not deterioration, rather poor design. Applicatfpns for capital grants are being received until September 30, 1981 so word of acceptance of Huron's application Will probably not be received un- til 1982. nt111982. •Scotchmer said the property 'committee considered several factors in making their • decision before , NEWBORN NEWS ANDERSON WHITE David and Lynda Bee White- ( nee hite-(nee Cooke) are pleased to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Krista Bee, born on June 28,1981 at Alex- andra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich, Ontario. They con- sidered that the county already awns the land where the present museum is located. The marine museum has recently been established in Goderich and will be operated in conjunction with the pioneer museum. It would be costly to move the locomotive in the museum to another location and Scotchmer is not in favour of establishing a village type museum because he feels the area has several already. Scotchmer hopes the building program can be phased 'over several years to permit the museum to remain open to the public during construction. He outlined severaladvantages to a new structure including environmental control, ,which will permit the museum to be open all year round. Presently, the main exhibitarea cannot be heated during the winter months. Scotchmer observed that having the museum open during the winter would be advan- tageous for school children to tour the museum dur- ing the school year. He also anticipated the new structure will have display rooms and lecture rooms which the present museum lacks as well as vault space for archival materials. Have we got a job for you! LONDON Name Addreis City AgeL L Postai Code . Phone oss Hop s eonstitixtio.l crisis ean be resolved Dear Editor: • I have 'followed the news accounts of the con- stitutional crisis in Canada for several years. As a former . Canadian, graduate of the University of Toronto, with pioneer British forbears in Peterborough County (1833) and ` in Huron County (1854), and as a person who is privileged to own property in Ontario, I would like to make three observations. (1) The government of Great Britain -and the Netherlands are the only two governments in Europe . which recognize that a queen may reign in her own right where there is no male heir. This is based on the Zelophehad law off ancient Israel. All other countries in Europe are under Salic law which exclude$, a female from the dynastic,-'succes- sion. ynastic,- succes-sion. Whether or not one regards the British monarch as a figurehead these days, the fact remains that in times past the monarch did rule, and under British law a woman could come to the throne. In a time of, struggle for women's rights, this in- credible fact has the most far-reaching implications. (2) A Christian woman by adoption through Christ is a spiritual `descendant of, the freewoman Sarah, not of a slavewoman subject to the bidding of her master. Every' woman can become a freewoman through Christ. This „ in turn means that every Christian woman is a queen, not a servant, in her own household, with a place of respect in the community. She is not a slave. She is not to be exploited. She is sup- posed to assume her own responsibilities freely. This is' her birthright to be claim- ed in every generation. (3) The dialectical relation between federal authority and, states or provincial rights in the American Con- stitution and in the British North America Act also em- bodies this unique relation ship. Mein in leadership posi- tions have called federal authority and provincial rights the two sovereignties, but further clarification is necessary. The sovereignties are those, not of two masculine principles, but of the masculine princi- ple of federal authority and the feminine principle of states or provincial rights. In short, this is the equal and paradoxical recognition of both order and freedom, con- tract and consent, structure and vitality, Platonic Being and Aristotelian Becoming, • the "Yes" and the "No" of Abelard's SIC ET NON, the top-down and the bottom-up, the great and the small, the universal and the particular, the . bridegroom and the bride. A synthesis of oppos- ing viewpoints or com- promise at the highest point of tension is possible in the context of good -will and sacrifice for the common gnod. There is no other Utopia. J.B. Priestley in the 1950's stated that the masculine principle, such as the hydrogen bomb, was in the ascendancy, while the femine principle was in eclipse. If the femine princi- ple is in eclipse it is only Printing Service • ONE WRITE SYSTEMS • FORMS & CARBONS FOR ANY SYSTEM - McBEE, COMPACT, ETC. ■ BUSINESS FORMS • BUSINESS CARDS • ENVELOPES ■ LETTERHEADS • INVOICES ■ STATEMENTS • BROCHURES • INVITATIONS • RUBBER STAMPS Larry Cowan 528-2730 Lucknow GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, I981- 1 A( E? because we have either allowed this to happen or are dominated by a matriarchal rather than a bride -centered society. The world-view em- bodied in the British in- stitutions of state, church, and family is the guarantee of freedom under law and two-party thinking. It is our precious heritage. My hope is that, the present con- stitutional crisis will be resolved .through a new manifestation of- these two fundamental principles.
