Dear Edibr:
In reply to the letter "Now
What Was That Promise
Again, Mr. Dervis?"
Let's lace the facts. The
price of gasoline is well
above the .18 cents that
defeated tie Conservative
government at the Federal
level. We now have a blended
price that the Liberals
promised, piss a 12 bullion
dollar rake-off that the
Liberal government let the
oil companies tap the public
for. When it canes to con-
ning the public, I believe that
Trudeau has done it.
P.T. Barnum made
millions on the assumption
that the public enjoyed being
deceived. This economic
escapade has been very
influential in promoting
inflation. Does one now
expect ,the provincial
government to curb in-
flation, when the federal
government is doing
everything they can to
promote it? What govern-
ment is favouring big
business? I'm sure the an-
swer is obvious.

GODERIMIGNALSTAR, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 1981—PAGE7
BY JASON AINSLIE
The Huron County Board of Education was unable
to establish a comprehensive policy regarding the
administering of medication to students within its
system, when members met at Clinton, June 4.
At the final meeting before the three-month
summer recess, Board Director D.J. Cochrane
Presented a motion that, if approved, would permit
principals or teachers in schools under the board's
jurisdiction to administer medication to students
providing certain measures are followed.
The last provision in the director's motion read that
"In no case shall aprincipal or teacher dispense any
medication wherein surgical tools or eqpment are
required" including the administering of needles.
Problems with sudi a policy arise in the example of
a student who is allergic to bee stings but gets stung
at the school. Some members of the board were
concerned that with many Huron County elementary
schbols lecated in itifia areas *here fields of plant
life attract bees, susceptibility to the bee sting is
increased.
Board Trustee Dr J C Goddard_explain' ed
those victims allergic to bee stings must be treated
within 10 to 15 minutes of the stinging. The victim is
treated with adrenaline which has only to be injected
by needle under the skin to take effect
The doctor said that too little of the medication is
not effective, while too much adrenaline can kill a
dal "According to the severity of the rearlion," he
isnot a tar layman 4-W- --"."
The board's dilemma: does it take the risk of
authorizing lay personnel to administer potent
medications, or does the board risk getting the victim
into the proper mecfical hands within 15 minutes of a
bee sting.
Tru_stee Murray Mulvey noted that most elemen-
tary schools in the county are more than 10 minutes
away from the neatest hospitals and said too many
lives are jeopardized in a road race against time.
Dr. Goddard said it would be difficult to instruct
principa1 s to proper dosages due .to the varied
reaction; of each victim,
me °oar° (readeo mat an -bin me final pin visions
could be approved, and opted to hear the legal advice
before approving the total package.
Board Director Cochrane informed the board that
the elementary schools do not retain nurses on staff,
but rather await the periodical visits of the public
health nurses.
