The town's first annual

-on May -22- and 28 turned -out_
to be a outstanding success
with more than 15,000 people
enjoying the festivities.
Rlompen Feest, meaning

SEAFORTH - High interest
rates and an uncertain
economy -are .cited as the
main masons for a decline of
more .than $115,000 in
building permits issued in
Seaforth.
From January to April
1980 permits totalling
$165,000 were issued but this
year the figure dropped to
$49,000.
"I certainly believe the
reasons are people are ea
tremely cautious, and
careful with the high interest
rates," Harry Verburg,
manager of the Toronto -
Dominion Bank in Seaforth
explained.
Seaforth town clerk James
Crocker also speculated high
interest rates as the main
culprit in the decline of
building permits issued,- but
noted that the difference
could be made up later in the
year.
