These words, from the 16th Chapter of St. John, open out for our meditation the mystery of Christ's return to. the Father. To the Apostles it must have been a frighten- ing thought: to be left without Jesus to call upon for support. No More to hear His beloved voice, to enjoy His o • a But company - gave them the answer to their fears. He would send the Holy .Spirit, - solnething He could not do until He had been glorified.in ,Heaven. And, true to His word, this Spirit of Truth did cone to them on Pentecost. So powerful was his coming that the Apostles, who had spent the .days iae mortal fear behind locked doors, now burst forth from their hiding - place and . preached the Gospel to their enemies on the very steps of the Temple. This must be one of the most consoling passages in . HolyyScripture for :i isns today, The Apostles had ar- rayed crayed against them not only the power of imperial Rome, but their own people. There was nowhere to turn for sup- port. But there was powerful support, support from Jesus Himself. He was still with them. Our Lord did not cease His saving mission among men when He left the earth for Heaven. Quite the con- trary: tie :had. ot15y' just begun His task of being a Saviour. He is with us now in the most wonderful and mysterious ways 'so that really, if we stop and think about it prayerfully, we have no reason . for fearing the powers of evil in the world today. • . How is Jesus with us? It is He who sends the Holy inisterfs study Spirit, that invisible divine Presence that permeates all the activities of believing men. Every waking moment this. Holy Spirit .is with us, gently moving us to seek what is good and holy. Every task we begin, no matter how ordinary, can be made an act of worship through the sommonnasmostmannw Holy Spirit who is given to us. And when we turn to prayer, this same Holy Spirit gives •us words to express what humanly we cannot. What further does Jesus do for us? That same divine nature that enables Him to send the Holy Spirit upon all mankind makes it possible Respect for life Goderich and District Pro Life Group are observing Respect -.for Life Week May 31 - June 6 to mark the United Nations International Year of Disabled Persons. Heating with oil is a habit Canadians acquired when oil was plentiful and cheap. Today sources of oil are unreliable and increasingly more expensive, SO we just have to kick the habit. The habit won't be hard to break because Canada has an abundance of energy alterna- tives that are plentiful and are ultimately cheaper than oil. The Canada Oil Substitu- tion Program (COSP), is a major part of the federal govern- ment's NationalEnergy Program. COSP is designed to help reduce the use of oil for home heating in every pilo- vince to no more than 10 per cent of total household energy use by 1990. COSP is a 10 -year program that offers grants of up to tl , 5800 covering half the cast of equipment and labour for changing your space or hot water heating system from oil to natural gas, electricity, propane or renewable energy sources such as wood and solar, The COSP grant is taxable, The oil substitution of a centrally heated building unit that contains two or more self-contained dwelling units can qualify for COSP grants ranging from 51,000 to 55,500. HOW TO APPLY FOR YOUR GRANT Those of you who are ready to get off oil, or have switched from oil since October 28,1980, ask for grantinformation from: • your nearest natural gas or electric utility; • the federal Department of Energy, Mines and Resources (EMR) office, about conver- sion to wood or solar heat or another renewable energy source. EMR is located at: 2242 Lakeshore Boulevard W Toronto, Ontario MSV 1A5 Call.ArS- Call: (416) 252-586 or toll-free : 1-800-268-2207 PLAN AHEAD FOR REST SAVINGS To start planning your move off oil, the federal Depart- mens of Energy, Mines and - Resources can help you: • assess your home's energy efficiency by means of a free computerized EnerSave questionnaire, • insulate your home under the Canadian Horne Insulation program (CHIP) which pro- vides taxable grants of up to 5500. Insula ion is not a require- ment of COSP, but it makes sense to have a well insulated home before you change your , heating system. The better your insulation the.smaller-sized heating system you'll need when you switch off oil.
