There were nine tables in
play when the Goderich
Dupticar -13-ridge Chub met
at the Legion Tuesday
evening.
Topping the north -south
division were Jean Paper -
nick and Auleen Curry.
Second were Dawna Sproule
and Sean Sullivan. Third
were Rick Somers and Gord
Rutledge. And fourth were
Mary Donnelly and Eleanor
Erskine.
Joanne Duck4"orth and
Lee Ryan placed first in the
east -west division. Louise
Hetherington and Kay
Whateley were second. Kay
Duncan and Nuala Conlon
were third. And there was a
tie for fourth place between
Arlene Gibbons and Theresa
Donatis and Ray and Betty
Fisher.
The club championship
game will be held Tuesday,
June 2.
McGee Pontiacs
shut out French
The McGee Pontiacs shut
out French Drycleaners last.
Wednesday night 4-0 in
Industrial League Fastball
action.
Rick Sowerby pitched the
four -hit game for McGees
and chalked up five strike-
outs. Sowerby also hit a
home run in the fourth inning
for one McGee run.
Ron Klages and Paul Kelly
rounded home plate in the
, third inning for the winners,
while Ron Sowerby added
the other McGee run.
However, the Pontiacs
suffered a 9-7 loss Friday in a
make-up game against Hotel
Bedford. Rob Plunkett and
Ron, Austin shared pitddrig
duties for the winners, while
Ken Daer and Rick Sowerby
took turns on tbe,;mound for
McGees.
The Pontiacs took; a 50
lead in the first inning on
runs from Ron Klages, Paul
Kelly, Ken Daer, Rick
Sowerby, and Mike-Frayne.
It wasn't until the fifth inning
that, L1U( itOla VIU soot VII the
scoreboard with three Paas.
Jim Crawford hit a home
run with nobody on base for
Bedford's first run, • then
Charlie Crawford got to
second through an error.
Terry Austin hit a double,
bringing Crawford in, then
Bill Black's single brought in
Austin.
Bedford. exploded for six
runs in the sixth inning to
take a 9-5 lead. Ron Hunking
and JLm ° Crawford were
brought home by Rob
Plunkett's triple, and
Charlie Crawford hit a single
to bring in Plunkett.
With Crawford and Terry
Austin on base, Bill Black hit
one over the fence for three
more runs.
McGees managed two
more in the seventh inning
from Mike Frayne and Clare
Harmon to make it 9-7.
French Drycleaners
handed Bedford a loss intern
Sunday when they outscored
them 114. French turned on
the batting power early as
they scored five in the first,
five more in the second, and
one in the third.
George Sutton was high
scorer for French as he
rounded home plate three
times. Bob Johnston and Don
Bogie each scored twice,
while Steve Johnston, Phil
Turner, Rae Mathers, and
Wayne Kennedy each got
one.
Bill Black scored three of
the ,,Redfordruns. and.. Del
Mltchelmore got one.
The McGee Pontiacs get
back on the winnipg track
Sunday with a 7-4 win over
the Canada Company. The
score was tied at three after
two innings.
Mike Donnelly hit a triple
in the top of the first for the
Company and was brought
home by Rob MacDonald,
who dvaneed ki second un a
passail .eDondld made
it home after Brian. Bowman
bit a single.
McGees went ahead 3-2 in
the bottom of the first with
rims by Paul Kelly, Rick
Sowerby and Ron Sowerby,
who all got on base with
singles. Tom O'Brien tied it
up for the Company after
hitting a triple in the second.
McGees went ahead again
in the third when Ron
Sowerby bit a double and
was brought home by Doug
Spitzig's home run to make it
5-3. Canada Company's Ted
Doherty made it 54 in the
fifth with a run, but McGees
wouldn't let up and scored
two more in the sixth to gain
the victory. Paul Kelly and
Steve Berry got the runs
after both hitting doubles.
Fisher Builders
blast G & P 10-0'
In Industrial League
Fastball action Monday
night, Fisher Builders
blasted Green & Parent 10-0,
and Canada Company edged
French Drycleaners5-4.
G&P managed only one hit
off Fisher pitcher John
Verway and his fielders who
matched that defensive play
with several runs. Hits by
Wally Pierson, John Hoy,
and Jim Bell, enabled Denis
Lebrun, Barry Block, and
Jack MacKinnon to score in
the first inning for a 3-0 lead.
Pierson's double in the
second inning brought Block
home for another rim. Hoy
and Verway scored in the
third. Lebrun, Block, and
Verway put Fishers way out
in front 9-0 at the end of the
fifth inning. Block chalked
up his fourth run of the night
in the sixth to complete the
Fisher scoring.
It was a closer game
between the Canada Com-
pany and French
Drycleaners, however, as
French came back from a 5-1
deficit yin the sixth inning to
score three runs but couldn't
get the equalizer.
French got on the
scoreboard in the opening
inning when Phil Turner hit
a triple to bring in George
Sutton. The Company tied it
up in the bottom of the first
when Mike Donnelly also hit
a triple and was brought in
by Brian Bowman's single.
The Company went ahead
in the third after Ted
Doherty was batted in by
Donnelly. Rob MacDonald
also scored to put them
ahead 3-1. Bill Tigert and
Brian Shewfelt rounded
home plate in the fourth
inning for the Company's
last two runs.
Don Bogie's home run in
the sixth inning helped
French close the gap as he
batted in George Sutton and
Bob Johnston, but the team
couldr l get any hits in the
last inning.
Dean Doherty pitched the
winner for Canada Company
while Bob Johnston was on
the mound for French
Dryc lea ners.

Many close games
There are many evenly -
matched teams in the
industrial Fastoau League
as they try no establish
themselves early in the
season.
Last Monday, May 18,
Canada 'Company edged
Lakeport Advertising 2-1,
Fisher Builders outscored
French Drycleaners 8-6,
Green Si Parent beat Gord's
Sports 6-5, and on Tuesday
Gord's chalked up a 7-6 win
over Hotel Bedford.
Despite Simon Langlois'
ten strilse-oats for Lakeport
Advertising, Canada
Company managed an extra
run to win. Mike Donnelly
scored one in the first inning
for the young Canada
Company, and Brian
Bowman rounded home
plate in the sixth for the
winning run.
Lakeport's only run came
in the fourth inning when Len
Kolkman scored.
Dean Doherty pitched the
winner for the Company
allowing only two hits and
staking out one batter.
It was an even match for
pitchers Doug Fisher and
Ray Hurd in the Fisher -
French game as they each
pitched four strikeouts and
allowed 14 hits each But the
Builders came out on top of
the8-6 score.
French Drycleaners were
ahead 3-1 at the end of the
third on two ram from
Wayne Kennedy and one
from Willie Denonune. Jim
Bell scored for Fishers.
After another Wayne
Kennedy run in the fourth,
Fishers exploded for five
run's to make it 6-4. Denis
Lebrun, Barry Block, Jack
MacKinnon, John Hoy and
Bob McBride all scored for
Fishers in that inning.
French tied it up at six all
in the sixth inning when first
two batters Wayne Kennedy
and Ray Mathers got on base
with singles with none out
and were eventually hit
home.
The winning runs from
Fisher Builders came in the
bottom of the sixth from
Barry Block and Jack
MacKinnon. .

captures first
Lakeport Steel has cap-
tured first place in the
Industrial Fastball League
standings with two wins and
a.tie in the team's- opening
three games of the season.
Last Monday, May 18§
Lakeport played their
opener against the McGee
Pontiacs and after keeping
them runless after five in-
nings, held'on to beat there 5 -
Lakeport pitcher Brian
McKenzie pitched eight
strike -outs in those first five
innings before allowing Ken
Daer to hit a home run in the
sixth with Paul Kelly on
base. Claire Harmon scored
McGee's other run in the
seventh after hitting a
don_,,,ihle.
The Steelers scored four of
their five runs in the first
inning of play on runs by
Frank MacDonald, Tim
McLean, Bruce Bowman,
and Brian McKenzie. The
last run came in the fifth
from Ron Miller. Miller
walked tham advanced when
Carmen Fielder's hit
resulted in two McGee
errors. Lloyd Tigert .brough
Miller home with a single.
The Lakeport Advertisers
earned their only non -loss of
.the season thus far against
the Steelers May 20 when the
teams went to a 1-1 tie.
It was a pitchers' contest
as . top league hurlers.
McKenzie and Simon
Langlois combined for a
total of 19 stroke -outs over
ir-.:..6o of. play.
Lapgkis clalked up 13 of
them.
The Advertisers went
ahead in the third when first
batter Roy Fisher slammed
a triple out and made it
home.
The Steelers tied it up in
the fourth when Bruce
Bowman hit a single then
stole second base. Ron Miller

bowlers
open season
Twenty-four hardy lawn
bowlers braved the'. cool
weather on the Victoria
holiday weekend to officially
open the 1981 season.
On Thursday Kay 21, a
delicious potluck supper was
held in the Meneset Park
Rec. hall. After, a business
meeting was held with plans
for the summer season
finalized.
The remainder of the
evening was enjoyed by
playing euchre and bridge.
There will be open bowling
on the Monday, Wednesday
and Friday afternoons at
1:30 p.m. On the evenings of
Tuesday. Thursday and
Saturdays, Jitney bowling
will start at 7 : 30 p. m.

scored the other in the fifth,
also after hitting a triple.
The Steelers scored six
runs in the second inning to
take a commanding lead.
Tim McLean, Brian
McKenzie, Ron Miller,
Wayne Draper, David White,
and Lloyd Tiieert all rounded
home plate for runs.
Draper and Carmen
Fielder each scored in the
third to make it 8-0 for
Lakeport Steel. The fourth
inning saw a Ron Miller run,
and the sixth saw four more
runs by Miller, Fielder,
Draper, and White.
