After WWII
The country recovers
In November, 1948 at the annual banquet of the Huron
County Holstein Breeders in Clinton, Ontario Deputy
Minister of Agriculture Clifford D. Graham reported on his
recent trip to Holland.
"In Holland," he said, "Canadians are really made to feel
at home, due to the: job done by Canadians during the war."
Mr. Graham stated that he saw considerable amounts of
land below sea level which had been destroyed by the Ger-
mans, and which is producing a good crop this year.
He noted, "In Holland they stress a high class product from
export. The black and white cattle there are more dual
purpose, but they are not back in number to what they were
during the war."
Gaiy Haak was one of the privileged few to travel by air to
Canada. Leaving. Holland in 1951 on KLM Airlines, Mr.
• Haak • was looking for a more prosperous future than
Holland had to offer. Instead of joining the Dutch army,
_ Mr. Haak and his family now run a successful swine
operation hi Goderich Township. (photo courtesy of Mrs.
