Morning Star lodge members entertain in Goderich with Ladies' Night
Members of Morning Star
Masonic Lodge No. 309,
Carlow, entertained Satur-
day evening, May 16 with a
special "Ladies Night" at
the Legion Hall, Goderich.
Welcoming at the door was
Greg Hazlitt, W.M. and Mrs.
Hazlitt and Eric Miller, S.W.
and Mrs. Miller who
presented the ladies with a
beautiful corsage.
Over 150 did justice to a
delicious roast beef dinner
served by the Legion Ladies.
During the meal toasts were
given and responded to, Mr.
Allan Stoll 'introduced the
head table of Mr. Greg
Hazlitt, W.M. and Mrs.
Hazlitt. Mr. Harry Tebbutt,

short recess for folk to meet
friends and all then assembl-
ed for an enjoyable program
which consisted of a short
talk by Harry Tebbutt,
D.D.G.M., toe tapping
musical numbers by a group
of, Violin, Fred James,

The U.C.W. of Benmiller
United Church held its
meeting in the Church on
Wednesday May 13 at which
there was an attendance of
16. The Maitland Unit was in
charge of the meeting, also
the Thankoffering.
Mrs. Leonard Fisher
presided and welcomed all
after which Mrs. Wm. Bogie
opened the meeting with .a
reading What Does Missions
Mean and read the scripture
from Romans 8, 31-39.
An interesting talk on the
life of Mother Theresa and
the role she played in the life
of Missions was given by
Mrs. Leonard Fisher' and
members joined in singing
two hymns with Mrs. Ben
Straughan and. Mrs. Wm.
Jewell painists.
Mrs. Les Pitblado spoke of
Rev. Michael Chandoo from
Trinidad and Grenada, an
exchange minister, who is
serving at present in the
Alberta Conference in con-
nection with the Missions
and Service Department of,
the United Church.
The offering was received
by Mrs. George McBride,
after which Mrs. Pitblado
read two humorous poems,
Grandmas Just Don't Know,
and Over. Sixty, which
brought many a chuckle.
Mrs. William Jewell gave
the treasurer's report and.

the secretary, Mrs. John
Feagan, read the minutes of
last meeting. The three units
gave their reports for the
first part of the year which
were very encouraging.
The meeting closed with
the Mizpah Benediction after
which all enjoyed a delicious
lunch served by the Maitland
unit, - -
EUCIRiE CARD PARTY
Colborne Township
Recreation Committee has
sponsored Euchre Card par-
ties in Colborne Township
Hall during the winter and
early spring months for
several years. During this
past season the parties were
held on the second and fourth
Thursday evenings with Mr.
and Mrs. Leonard Fisher
and Mr. and Mrs. Reg Riehl
in charge.
There have been very en-
couraging crowds and last
Thursday the final party had
an attendance of enough
players for 14 tables of
cards. While they regret
they will have to call a holi-
day until late fall or January
of 1982, they are looking for-
ward to resuming the card
parties next season. Winners
on Thursday evening were,
ladies, Mrs. Peter DeGroot
and Mrs. Mary Harman;
gents, Percy Blundell and
Mel Snell. . .
Those in charge have en-
joyed the parties and ap-
preciate the assistance of
thosethat have helped in any
way even by helping with the
tables, serve lunch, or help-
ing to clean up, and hope and
trust you all have an en-
joyable summer and fall.
Tiger Dunlop Women's In-
stitute May meeting will be
next week, Thursday May 28
1:45 p.m. in Colborne Torp.
Hall. Goderich Institute
members are invited and the
guest speaker will be Mrs.
Carlton Worsen on the topic
"Horticulture".
Members are reminded of
the fact there will be a plant
auction, so bring what you
have in plants, shrubs, etc.

Mr. Earl Reaburn, RR 5,
left Tuesday for Ghana,

Nile UCW meeting . was
held at the home of Mrs.
Graham McNee in Dungan-
non on May 14. The theme of
the meeting was World
Outreach and was led by
Mrs. Phyllis Scott.
The meeting opened with a
reading by Phyllis followed
with scripture readings. The
meditation was about Asia.
Hymn 259, We Have Heard a
Joyful Sound, was followed
with a reading .taken from
the "Bible Prophecy" and
another reading "Tribute to
Mothers" by Phyllis. Prayer
closed this part of the
meeting.
Mrs. Girvin thanked Mrs.
McNee for the use of her'
home and welcomed
everyone. Roll .call was
answered by 11 members
and one visitor, telling of
some problems facing youth
today.
Minutes of the last
meeting were read and
adopted. The treasurer's
report was given and cor-
respondence was also read.
Plans were made for a
shower for Shirley Dougher-
ty on June 8. Suggestions
were made concerning June
5 for our smorgasbord Su
per with 200 tickets to be sold
at $5 for adults and $2 for
children and to have two sit-
tings, 5 and 7 p.m.
The joint church service is
to be held at Meneset this
coming Sunday at 11 a.m.
with mertibers bringing
lunch and their own cutlery
for a picnic.
The next meeting is to be
held at Mrs. Cowan's in
Dungannon, if Mrs. McWhin-
ney is not able to do it.
The meeting closed with
prayer by Mr. Cowan and a
lovely lunch was served by
Mrs. Scott and Mrs.
Rutledge.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Outram
of Ajax visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Eric Miller and family
on the weekend.

Rick McGee from
Grimsby visited with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harold McGee of Nile last
weekend, also with his
sisters and families in
Dungannon.
Mrs. Dorothy Greeley
from Huntsville visited- for
two weeks with her cousin
and families, also with her
aunt, Gladys Rivett of
Goderich.
South Africa, where he will
be working with Canadian
Crossroads International un-
til September. Many from
this district welcomed the
opportunity of giving Earl
aid for his trip and sincerely
wish him success in his work
and would appreciate hear-
ing of his task and adven-
ture.
Mrs. Gordon Brindley and
daughter Norine have
returned from a very plea-
sant trip to Florida visiting
friends and seeing the sights.
Two weeks after their return
home they took a train trip to
Regina to visit Mrs.
Brindley's daughter Jean
and family.
The weather at Regina
was quite .warm with
vegetables in the garden
even though it was very dry
in that district but they have
had rain north of Regina.
After a month's visit they,.
returned home by train and
on the way encountered a
snow storm at Thunder Bay
and rain at Sudbury and
really cold weather. They
also said the sandstorms
'were very dense and there
were five of them while they
were in that district. It was a
nice trip but glad to be home
again.
Guests with Mrs. Ann
Buchanan over the holiday
weekend were her sister-in-
law, Mrs. Chana Buchanan
from Vancouver, B.C. and
her nephew- Mr. and Mrs:
Allan A. Buchanan and
daughters Cindy and Carol
of Niagara Falls.
