x,011-a®thon this weekend
This Saturday, Goderich's
roller Skating enthusiasts
will be going round and
round for ten hours to raise
money for a new sound
system over the arena floor.
Goderich Oldtimers
host first tourney
Last Saturday, May 16, the
Goderich Oldtimiers Soccer
club held its first annual
tournament. Goderich
hosted teams from Kit-
chener, London, and Guelph.
The tournament was won
by Kitchener Concordia who
won all of their three games.
- Joe Fahel of Concordia was
high scorer with six goals in
three games.
The Goderich Oldtimers,
coached by Stan Profit, lost
their first game of the day to
Guelph by a score of 2-0.
They played London Car-
nival next and managed to
edge them by a 1-0 score.
Terry Wilton kicked in the
ball for Goderich.
The locals played Kit-
chener Concordia in their
last game and lost to the
champions 6-0.
The Most Sportsmanlike
Award went to J. Jansen of
the Guelph Oldtimers. A
special award was given to
Heins Feth of the London
Carnival team. It seems
Heins has played soccer
forever.
To the committee who
organized the tournament, to
the girls who ran therefresh-
ment booth, to Walter
Gottschalk and his referees,
to the players who served up
a high quality of soccer, a
great thank you from the
tournament organizers.

The GDCI soccer teams
continued their strong
showing in Huron -Perth
Conference play last week.
The junior Vikings remain
undefeated and unscored
upon following, two home
field victories. Tuesday
coach Dick .Madge'. team
shutout Norwell 3 - 0 and
Friday they , got by
previously undefeated
Central Huron of Clinton 1-
0.
Greg Marshall scored the
opening goal against Norwell
when he headed in Paul
McCartney's corner kick.
Second half goals by Mike
McCallum and Dan Gregory
ensured the Vikings' win.
McCartney got the only
goal against Clinton on a
first trafu penalty kick. The
rest of the .game featured
aggressive defensive play by
both sides. .

Piurnbers play Sunday
Ladies Intermediate
Softball action has resumed
in Goderich for the third
consecutive year with
Hoffmeyer's Little Plumbers
at bat once again.
The 1981 season kicks off
with the Plumbers hosting
Milverton on Sunday, May 24
at 2 p.m. To celebrate their
return to the league, Jane
Netzke, Goderich R uhreation
Director, will throw the
opening pitch of the game
and a draw on a special door
prize will be made at 2 p.m.
Returning to the Little
Plumbers 1981 line-up are
Bev. Wright, manager -
player; Mary Kolkman,
coach -player; Jeanette
Donnelly, score -keeper -
treasurer; Norma Walter;
Sue Kolkman; Heidi E_ lliott;
Jenny More; Sandy Rowe
and Diane Snell. New
recruits include Donna
Horner and . Debbie
Prowse.
More familiar faces with
the Little Plumbers are
Earleen Spain, Joanne
Chambers, Mickey
Giesbrecht, Barb Meriam
and Karen Donnelly - gate
attendants and last but not
least Josephinethe Plumber,
the official mascot.
Once again The Plumbers'
home games are Friday
evening at 8:30 p.m. (with
the exception of two Sunday
games, May 24 and June 21).
A copy of the Little Plum-
bers' regular season will be
available at all home games
at the Goderich Agricultural
Park.
Come follow the little
Plumbers during their 1981
season.

Well I guess all that pray-,
ing for sunshine has paid off.
The weekend was full of it
and even though it was cool
there were lots of en-
thusiastic golfers out doing
their thing.
Still no report for men's
night as course was 'closed
last. Tuesday because of
rain.
Ladies night last week was
also rained out, but we all en-
joyed a pot -luck supper and
a game of cards.
Thursday, May 7th, 12
ladies golfed and the winners
of second flight were: Joyce
Boltgn, Thora McCabe and
Joanne. Third flight winners
were: Betty Helesic, Rocky
Whalen and Grace' Sale,
while Bunny LeBlanc was
the winner of fourth flight.
The first Two -Ball on Mon-
day was a real success with
40 people attending.
First winners were: Pat
Dockstader and Dave
MacAdam; 2nd, Joyce and
George Bolton; 3rd, Darlene
Crawford and Issy Bedard;
4th, Ellen and. Stan Connel-
ly; 5th, Joan and Bob
McDougall.
The next Two -Ball will be
Sunday, May 31st at 3:30.
Food will be provided. Plan
to attend as everyonehas a
great time at these outings.
Let's hope the weather will
be good from now on and
we'll have more to report on
men's and ladies' nights.
The junto r.Vilrings- record
now stands at five wins and
no losses. Goal keeper Greg
Lapaine has been in the
Viking goal for all five of the
shutout victories.
The senior Vikings had an
easy time of it against
Norwell, winning 5 - 0. Steve
Walters had two goals, while
Karl Krohmer,, , Mike
Wedlock and Brian Shewfelt
had one each. John Shear
down recorded the shutout
for coach Del. Almeida'§
team. •
It , was,a , tougher
proposition gainst Clinton
here Friday as the Vikings
had to go all out for a 1-1 tie
with the Redmen. Steve
Walters .scored the Goderich
goal.
The senior Vikings' record
is • now three wins, one loss
and one tie: Both the junior
and senior teams finished
their regular schedule in
Seaforth Tuesday. Playoffs
begin tomorrow (Thursday)
with sudden -death semi-
finals.
The Huron -Perth cham-
pionships will be decided in
the finals to be played next
Tuesday. ,

Organized by the rec of-
fice-, the- roll -a -then- will go
from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday and is open to
skaters of all ages. Skates
will be provided for those
who do not have their own.
Prizes will be awarded to
those who turn in the most
amount of pledge money
after the roll-a-thon. First
prize is $100, then $50, $25,
$15, $10, $5, and $5. The
skater Who is under 9 years
old with the most amount
turned in will win $10.
Drinks and munchies will
be offered to the skaters
throughout the day.
Spenser sheets may be
picked up at the rec office at
the grandstand or at the
arena.
