Homemakers raise part
of building downpayment
The Town and Country
Homemakers are pleased to
announce they have raised
over $4,000 towards the
$10,000 downpayment to pur-
chase . the Victoria Street
(Winghani) building in
which they have a their of-
fices.
The owner of the house the
group has been renting since
December 1980 has received
an offer on the property. The
Homemakers have been
given 'first option to pur-
chase it, provided they can
raise the required funds.
The board set up a building
fund aiming to eventually
purchase- the property.
There were suggestions that
the group cv„utld move from
Wingham to the new county
health building •at 1! uron-
•view in ' Clinton but it was
decided it would be inconve-
nient and also the group
would like to retain its -in-
dependence.
The Town and Country..
Homemakers is a private,
non-profit organization
which provides a variety of
• professional homemaking
services to persons who need
them. Last year it employed
80 homemakers and served
1,500 clients in Huron Coyn-
ty.'
The board would like to ex-
press .its appreciation to the
following who have con-
tributed to/he building fund -

Telephone survey
to be conducted
A survey to 'find out if
telephone users in the
Auburn exchange want long
distance charges eliminated
between Auburn and the
exchanges of Clinton and
Goderich is being conducted
by Bell Canada starting the
week of May.18. ... - _
Peter Croome, local Bell
manager, said cutomers in
Auburn will be asked if they
are in favor of adding Clinton
and Goderich to their local
calling area.
If '.the 'survey finds
customers do wish to expand
local calling, then monthly
telephone rates would in- ..
crease. •
would increase from $6 to
$6.80 per month (current
rates). The number of
telephones a ' caller could
reach would also 'increase,.
from a maximum of 3,500 to
a maximum of 15,000.
"In the event some people.
do not return their cad, we
will be following. up with a
telephone call to get as
complete a response as
possible," he said.
A survey will also be
conducted to see if Blyth.
telephone users want long
distance charges eliminated
between Blyth and Clinton
exchanges.
The surveys are being
cacrid out because new
"The montly charge for ---guidelines for Extended
telephone service is based on
the number of telephone
numbers that can be reached
. without paying long distance
charges," Mr. Croome said.
"Because proposed changes'
would increase the number
of subscribers a caller could
reach, the monthly rate for
service would increase."
In Auburn this would mean
the basic 'charge for in-
dividual residence service
Area Service were approved
by • the Canadian Radio -
television and Telecom-
munications Commission
last August.
These include 51 percent
approval on the survey
results, a defined level of
long distance calling
maintained between ex-
changes, exchange rate
centres no more than 30
miles apart and continguity.
