Colborne Central School
presented an, outstanding
Spring Concert last Wednes-
day, May 6 and Thursday,
May 7.
Principal,:, Mr. Jewitt,
welcomed the audience and
acted as emcee for both
evenings. •
Ile Colborne Central
Senior Choir of 80 voices
from Grades 5-8, under the
direction of Mr. F. Herman
and accompanied by K.
Richardson, opened the pro-
gram by singing five
numbers, "Pussy Willows,
Car Tails", "Solfeggio',
"What Shall we do with the
Drunken Sailor", "Cats in
the Cradle" and "Keys of
Heaven". They sang with
such enthusiasm, splendid
enunciation, perfect timing,
• pep and vigor that it was a
'joy to listen to them and it
really set the stage for a
wonderful evening.
On Wednesday evening,.
Grades 1-2 with class
teacher, Mrs. M. Starkey
and music supervisor, Mrs.
S. Dustow"presented "Spring
Fantasy" a perfect spring
number which reminded one
of flowers blossoming, bees
buzzingand birds chirping in
a salute to an awakening
season.
On Thursday evening the
second nurniber was "A
Measure of Pleasure" with
Grades 4-5. This lively
musical drama was based on
the metric system and
featured a class in school
with Miss Bliss (student Kim
Edward) as a teacher trying
to cope with the problem of
students' excuses for not do-
ing some of their homework.
The trials and tribulations
of Canada's conversion to
the metric system are ex-
amined in this musical play.
if metric measurement con-
fuses people, then imagine
the hurt feelings of discard-
ed foot rulers, yard sticks
and the like.
Mr. Sander's Grade 4 class
involved a homework bird
(played by Steven ,Millian),
typical students and not -so -
typical "Crooks" to explain
the merits of metric.
Chorus singers from Mr:
Hunter's Grade 5 class add-
ed to the music on this play.
The next item on the pro-
gram was Steven Millian,
who won a silver medal in
the provincial finals public
speaking contest at
Hespeler, delighting the au-
dience with his winning talk
"Girls".
Grades . 6, 7 • and. 8
presented the t,wo act
melodrama "Virtue and
Justice Triurriph Again".
This melodrama takes place
at the Perkins' Boarding
Home for retired movie per-
sonalities owned and
operated by a former film
star now known as Grand-
mother Perkins and her
. grandchild Nell Perkins.
There's laughter galore as
we meet W. C. Fields; Count
Dracula, Marlene Dietrich,
Edgar Bergen, Charlie Mc-
Carthy, Charlie Chaplin,
Shakespeare and a zany
H liywooldirector.
The plot finds our villain,
Archibald Q. Snidely and his
bumbling son paving a visit
to the boarding home, plann-
ing to steal the old movie
films kept there. Things look
bleak for Nell Perkins • and
her grandmother but Justice
Triumphs in the end as an
unexpected turn of events
discloses Archibald Q. Snide-
ly as a crook. Grandmother
Perkins' money being
restored and the !arrival of
the hero Ronald Goodguy br-
ings happiness to all. A tour
boy sister, a complaining
maid, a saucy telegraph
messenger and a kicking
chorus line add tbthe hilari-
ty of the production.
