Buchanan) Cardino. steps down as chairman Betty Cardno, co-founder and first Board Chairman of the Town and Country Homemakers, has stepped down as chief officer. Newofficers were elected at the first meeting of the new Board of Directors held at Wingham, April 22. Miss Bev Brown of Bluevale is the new Chairman of the Board. Mrs. Gwyn Whilsmith of St. Joseph's and the Reverend - Terry Trites of Bluevale are vice-chairmen, and Mrs. Lois Hodgert is secretary. Committee chairmen are: fund-raising, Mrs. Gwyn Whilsmith; policy, bylaws and personnel, Paul Steckle; program and evaluation, Rev. Trites; annual immisimor meeting, Mrs. Ruth Linton; and public relations, Mrs. Pauline Atton and Mrs. Grace Fraser. The Board continues to be concerned about the cancellation of the homemaking course by Canada Manpower. "Without a course to train more homemakers this year, it will be difficult to have the required number of homemakers we need for chronic home care," Jean Young, Executive Director, explained. "We are hopeful , that women who are in- terested in taking this course will contact their local Man- powr Office or write to Mur- ray Cardiff, MP in Ottawa, to express their concern. Town and Country Homemakers is incor- porated as a private non- profit charitable organiza- tion founded in 1978 by Jean Young and Betty Cardno. In 1980 it employed 80 homemakers and serviced almost 1,500 clients in Huron County. The owner of the premises occupied by the Agency has received an offer .. to pur- chase the, building and unless the Agency can raise funds for a down payment within the next two weeks, new office space will have to be found. While the bicycle is an excellent means of exercise and an inexpensive form of tran- sportation, the Ontario Safety League reminds you that it is considered a vehicle ,under the Highway Traffic Act. The rider must know and obey all the rules, signs and signals - the same ones that apply to the motori: For safe cycling, the bike must fit you. The size of the bike affects your ability to reach and use the steering, pedalling andbraking controls. You should be able to reach the ground com- Same privileges The Ontario Safety League reminds motorists that motorcycle drivers are given the same privileges as motorists ,and are subject to the same `rules of the road.' Watch for the motorcycle and treat it like any other vehicle - give it room. Watch for mopeds, bicycles- and remember that a moped is a slow -accelerating vehicle - some models must be pedalled before they gain speed and might also prove a little wobbly at this point. Be particularly careful of the two wheel driver when train and streetcar tracks are present. Negotiating tracks is a hazardous operation with these vehicles - don't crowd them. And when parking on a street, double check for bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles before opening your door. Research into motorcycle accidents indicates that in most crashes involving an automobile, the driver of the automobile is at fault. The two wheeler is with us, sharing the roads.
