Nurses Week
to focus
on discovery
Ontario nurses will be
celebrating "Nurses' Week"
throughout the province May
49. This event is. sponsored
by the 29„000 members of the
Ontario Nurses' Association
and has been devised to Help
increase public awareness,of
the nursing profession which
has far exceeded the
traditional role that many
perceive.
The theme of Nurses'
Week is "Discover Nursing"
and exhibits will be set up in
shopping malls, hospital
lobbies and libraries across
Ontario. In Goderich, a.
display will be set up at
Suncoast Mall on Thursday,
May 7 and Friday, May 8
from7-9 p.m. It will include a
blood pressure clinic. Key
chains, balloons, bumper
stickers, posters and
pamphlets will be given out
to promote public
awareness.
The public is encouraged
to take this opportunity to
rneet and converse with the
nurse sof the community.
In a congratulatory letter
addressed to members of the
nursing'inrofession, Premier
William Davis said: "To all
its members, caring
professionals who have
devoted their life and skills
to alleviating pain and
suffering for their fellow
man and to restoring their
health, 'I salute your com-
mitment
ornmit<nent and express my
thanks."
The annual Candystrlpers Award Ceremony was held at Alexandra Marine
tic General Hospital on Sunday afternoon with several candystrlpers
receiving caps, bands or pins for hours served. In the back row from left
are Cynthia Gower,Sharon Sowerby, Lisa Leddy, Pam Doney, Tracey
Wilson, Melody Solmon, Heather Turton, and Cheryl Main. In the front row
Don Jewitt of. Clinton, president of the Seaforth Broomball League, presented a ;400 cheque
on behalf of the League last week to Maureen Penn of Goderfch, chairman of the children's
services committee for the Goderich and District Association for the Mentally Retarded.
The money will be used for the handicapped children's nursery which was started by the
Association in the Vanastra Community Centre last ,February under the sponsorship of .
