This quilt pattern has been around'. for awhile and is known as the `double wedding ring'

Conference planned on the future of rural development
Speakers from New-
foundland to Vancouver
Island are addressing a con-
ference on the future of rural
development in Canada, at
the University of Guelph,
May 20 to 22.
The . conference, Ap-
proaches,to Rural Develop-
merit, is sponsored by the
federal government's
Department of Regional
'Economic Expansion, the
Ontaario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food, and
the University of G'uelph's
Ru.rai Development
Outreach Project and School
of Part -Time Studies and
Continuing Education.
"The' purpose of this pro-
gram is to bring interested
people together to review the
.results of recent rural
development . projects and
discuss _ future directions,"
says Mark' Waldron,
member of the conference
planning committee.
More than 125 people,
representing federal and
provincial governments,
municipal and regional plan-
ning departments, univer-
sities, rural organizations
and farmers, are expected to
attend the conference.
The educational program
begins May 21 with general
sessions and case studies.
During the afternoon,
delegates participate in five
concurrent workshop ses-
sions. Workshop topics in-
clude challenges- to rural
families, developing a rural
voice, changing technologies
for rural communities,
viable agricultural equals
viable rural community, and
the role of a small communi-
ty in a steady-state
economy. The conference
concludes May 22 with a
general session on looking
ahead to the fpture.
All interested people are
invited to attend the con-,
ference. 'Registration fees
are $85 per person, $48 for
