Ree board isefuse
to hear Little
At its regular meeting last
Thursday night, Goderich
Recreation Board refused to
entertain a request by Frank
Little to read a prepared
statement to theboard.
Little said he was not at
the meeting to ask for a
reversal of the board's
decision to not grant him
free or at a reduced rental
the auditorium of the arena
for an event to raise money
for the Goderich Trotting
Association.
He said that he wanted to
read the statement to "air
his views."
Member Elsa Havdon said
that she felt the board would
be out of order to hear Little.
"The matter has been tabled
before council and to go
through this would be a
waste 'of time unless
something new comes up."
Member Jim Searls stated
that the rec board has made
its decision, and that. coimcil
has two alternatives: to
overrule rec board or to
grant the money out of the
generalbudget. -
The decision to hear out
Little was left to chairman
Bob Cornish, and he told
Little to make copies of his
statement to send to all rec
board members to read.
Concrete policies
The Goderich Recreation
Board has formed a com-
mittee, under the chair-
manship of Member Ron
Bushell, to form concrete
policies regarding arena
rental and financial
assistance to -various
recreation groups in town.
The committee plans to
outline which groups deserve
a preferred rate and which
groups should pay full rental
of the arena floor or
auditorium. There is already
a by-law naming a few
groups who get free use of
the arena.
The committee will also
draw up an application for
financial .assistance which
will provide the board with
all the information it needs
about a grout)before` it ap-
proaches the board for
Money.
