The ride is this Sun- day (or nett Sunday if it rains). Sponsor sheets are available from any bank in town including Victoria and Grey Trust and the Credit Union and from Zehrs, the ABS, Kirkey's Texaco, Macs Milk and Becker's South Street store. The ride starts at 2 p.m. from the Suncoast Mall parking lot. Registration is • from noon until 1:30 p.m. The ride follows a 20 kilometer in -town route the same as last year's (see the map). Check points and rest centers will be set up and refreshments will be served to all bikers. Lucky draw prizes will also be given out. Each person who completes the ride will receive a cer- tificate from the Cancer Society. The ride for cancer has become an annual event in Goderich. It has been spon- sored by the Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs for the last four years on behalf of the Goderich Branch . of the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year's ride attracted Meetings to be closed SEAFORTH - Concerns about being misquoted by the press and reluctance of members to speak openly are the reasons Seaforth council has voted not to,hold open committee meetings. The motion to open committee meetings, moved by Councillor Paul Ross, was defeated 6-3 in a recorded vote at a recent Seaforth council meeting. The decision came as a complete turnabout from council's March meeting when Councillor Ross presented the proposal and five of six councillors indicated that they would support the motion. With the exception of contract and personnel matters, Councillor Ross suggested, "The town business should, as much as possible, be held in • the open. Councillor Robert Din- smore led the opponents of the motion, saying members were misquoted at council and because of that, if committee meetings were open, councillors would be reluctant to speak. As a result, he said, the meetings would be less productive 146 bikers who raised $5,000 for cancer research. Organizers are hoping to at- tract more riders and raise even more money this year. The ride is not limited to women only (some confusion exists because the event was originally organized under the name `Ladies' Great Ride for Cancer'). In fact, family participation is en- couraged. But any child under 12 must be accom- panied by an adult. All participants are at their own risk. ' If you need help along the route, there will be a follow-up vehicle. Money pledged by spon- sors must be collected within two weeks following the ride and taken to the Bank of Montreal. Official receipts will be issued for pledges of $5 or more, unless otherwise requested. Proceeds of the ride should be designated Cancer Campaign of the Goderich. Branch, Canadian Cancer Society.
