Firemen assist Iroquois families
LISTOWEL - Members of the
Listowel Fire. Department
have made a"donation to the
Iroquois Fire Department in
the Ottawa area.
The donation will go to
assist the families of five
members of the Iroquois
department who were killed
last month in an automobile -
train collision while
travelling to a fire call.

The contract for landscap-
ing Court House Park, at a
cost of up to $4,475, was
awarded 'to Charles Hay of
Zurich at a meeting of town
councifFriday night.
Alarmed by its own
helplessness to. avoid a
record eight -mill increase in
the 1956 tax rate, Goderich
town council last Friday ap-
pealed to the provincial and
'freral governments for
financial aid.
With the co-operation of
local residents, the Goderich
Horticultural Society hopes
to beautify the rock garden
at Harbor Hill. Plans for the
project were discussed at an
executive meeting this week.
Work has started on an
underground line which will
provide better long distance
telephone service . between
Goderich and London. The
plan will involve the removal
of hundreds of telephone
poles eventually.

Ted Bissett, a member of
the Goderich Volunteer Fire
Department for 47 years and
chief for the past 13 years,
handed in his resignation to
town council Monday night,
saying it was time he was
"getting out to pasture."
The Goderich Kinsmen
Club broke the ground at

Street Friday signifying the
start of construction on a
$40,000 addition to the
workshop they sponsor in
Goderich for mentally han-
dicapped adults.
