This Friday night at
midnight, area fishermen
will finally be allowed' to
move from the mouths of the
Bayfield, Maitland, and Nine
Mile Rivers and into their
favorite ponds and streams.
Mike Malhiot, biologist
with; the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority,
says that there should be
"reasonably good fishing for
opening day." He says that
the trout are having an early
run this season and a record
number, of 520 trout have
been tagged at the fish
ladder in Port Albert thus
far.
The MVCA. dumped about
6,000 fish in conservation
area ponds this year, meant
for the very young anglers
who want to try their hand at
fishing. Fourteen ponds in
Huron, Perth, all4parts of
Bruce were stocked. The
Falls Reserve pond in
Benmiller, the Hullett
Conservation Area ponds,
and the Wingham dam are.
some that were loaded with
young trout.
There is a limit of seven
trout a fisherman can take
home, and a limit of five for
a catch of rainbow trout and
or salmon.
An angler who drops his
line in a pond before Apri125,
or who exceeds his limit can
suffer some stiff penalties at
the hands of the judge
hearing his case. In Owen
Sound recently, a group of
fellows were fined $5,500 for
breaking fishing laws.
• There is no limit for smelt,
however, and according to
Malhiot thelittle fish.started
to run in heavy numbers up
the Nine Mile River last
weekend.

beauty. There's no waiting, no sanding,
no scraping that can destroy the wood's
patina. And Circa 1850 is almost
odorless, it's non- flammable and it needs
no after -wash or neutralizer. so the piece
is ready to finish as soon as it's dry.
The second secret is Circa 1850 Antique
