One hundred and five
musicians and singers from
• Vmcent Massey Collegiate in
Windsor will arrrive in
Goderich on Thursday, April
9 as part of the annual
G.D:. C.I. , band exchange:
The group will perform
two . concerti featuring a
wide variety of musie-one
on Friday morning for
G.D.C.I. students and one on
Saturday evening for the
general public. There is no
admission for the public
concert which . begins at 8
p:m. in the west gymnasium
of the school.
While in . Goderich, the
student musicians. and
singers will be billeted in the
homes of G.D.C.I.. band and
choir members. Besides
performing, they will be
given a tour of the Bruce
Nuclear Power Development
and the Huron County
Pioneer Museum. The
Goderich Tourist Committee
will supply tour guides and
information kits for a tour of
the town. as welL .And .a
dance will also be held on the
Friday evening for all those
taking part hi the exchange.
Members of- the G.D.C.I.
Sing -Out choir and the
concert, intermediate and
stage bands will travel to
Windsor on April 29 where
they will also perform -two
concerts. They will be
billeted in students' homes
until May 2 and given tours
of Windsor and Detroit.
The G.D.C.I. band ex-
change has been going on for
a number of years with
participating schools coming
from such cities as London,
Hamilton, North Bay and
Hauterive,' Quebec. .Last
year, Goderich exchanged
with sister city, Bay City,
Michigan.
G.D.C.I. music teachers.
Al Mullin and Hugh
MacGregor, wha organize
the exchanges. feel that they
serve two main purposes.
"Musically it's a good
experience to perform for an
unknown public and for your
own peers in another school
system. The students are
keen to perforin their ab-
solute best. It's almost like
an informal competition,"
says Mullin. "And socially
it's good to see how other
people live, behave and

geography lesson as well as
musicalone."
Mullin directs the concert
band; -MacGregor the .in-
termediate and stage bands;
and Eleanor Robinson the
choir.
A Band Booster Club,
which consists of a central
core of hard working
parents, helps with fund
raising for exchange trips,
new uniforms, etc.
On February 27, music
students held a • play-a-thon
and. raised $1200 to help
offset transportation costs.
for the Windsor trip. On
April 25 they will wash cars
at Gord McManus' car wash
on Kingston Street to -raise
money to meet next year's
expenses.
Future musical plans
include the annual spring
concert at the school on May -
20 which is open to the whole
community.
