Board considers
prevention progr-am.
The education committee
Of the Huron County Board of
EdUcation WM examine the
feasibility :of initialing a
drug abuse prevent ion
program in, county schools.
The matter was referred
following a letter from
•Goderich Police Chief Pat
King who said a drug
prevention program , was
available from Alcohol and
Drug Concerns Inc. of
TOronto. ig-§4118- - -drug
abuse was a problem in
schools and that the drub
abuse committee of the
- Ontario Association of -chiefs
of Police had examined the
program offered by the non-
profit group. •
Alcohol and Drug Con-
cerns Inc. present a seminar
for school teachers under the
auspices of the local board of
education. The seminar
leads to the iimplementation
of the program and Chief
King intimated that the cost
was reasonable.
Chief King said he would
be interested in meeting with
the board to 'discuss the
implementation of a drug
abuse •prevention program.
The education committee,
will review the matter. and,
report back to the board.
Former Lochalsh,
area man dies
Synvathy is extended to
the family of the late Ken-
neth MacLennan, Kennie as
he was !mown to all. Re waS
a half brother of the late
Emile MacLennan ,of
Lochalsh. He was born, rais-
ed and educated in the
• Lochalsh area. It was here
he remained most of his life
until he 'moved to Saltford
about four years ago. He is
survived by several nieces
and nephews. He was the
Jest member of the MacLen-
non family.
Florence MacLennan of
Kincardine has become a
full time ambulance atteh-
dant after passing a two and
a half hour exam in Toronto
last weekend.
Mrs. Emile MacLennan
has received her twenty-five
• . year 'pin at the Legion. in
Ripley last Thursday.
Bob MacKenzie spent the
weekend with his parents
Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacKen-
zie.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Mac-
-Charles had a successful
auction sale last Thursday.

Mrs. Emile MacLennan
had a lovely dinner with Mr.
and Mrs. Sandy MacCharies

Swans have been sighted

Trustee Frank Falconer
agreed with King's
assessment of the drug ,
problem.
"I have' heard a lot of
° rumors and I hope they
aren't half as bad as the
problem," he said. "It is a
real problem."
