BY PASTOR
ED ANDERSON,
- FIRST BAPTIST
CHURCH
Did Jesus really rise from
the dead? Did He not pro-
mise, "I will rise again."?
Did He not say, "Destroy
this temple (body) and in
three days I ' will raise it.
up."? (John 2:19). If He did
not- come back to life, then
how could He possibly be
"the Resurrection and the
Life" (John 11:25)?
If Jesis did not rise, then
His disciples were complete-
ly deceived. This is what
they taught the people; it
was the keynote of their
joyful testimony. They
preached, through Jesus, the
resurrection of the dead,
(Acts 4:2). How was it that
these miserable men in
hiding were suddenly chang-
ed and empowered, if they
saw not their risen Lord and
the empty tomb?
If Christ did not rise, then
the Christian Church is but a
gigantic fraud, for its ma-
jestic structure is without
foundation. Furthermore, if
there was no' empty grave in
Joseph's garden on the third
day, then Christianity is the
emptiest thing on earth, and
there is no strength or truth
in it.
If Christ did not rise, then
the Christian experience
itself must be but a grand
delusion. Our assurance of
forgiveness, our joy in being
justified in the light of God,
our peace of heart and mind,
our answered prayers, our
sweet fellowship with God,
our bright hopes for the
world to come, must be but
inistestur's
'imaginary.
What about the millions in
ery age who had"such an
rience?-Have they been
fatally betrayed?
If Jesus Christ, the Son of
God and Saviour of the
world, did not rise, then we
who believe in immortality
have been living in a fool's
paradise. Instead off "depar-
ting to be with Christ", those
who have died in this faith
have perished like the beast.
The joys, hopes, and visions
of the dying Christians, have
all been delusive and their
expectations of seeing Jesus
and meeting the loved ones
gone before, are empty fan-
cy. Ther whole lives have
been but mere hallucination.
Praise God, for He did in-
deed rise! Christ is a risen,
living, coming again, Lord.
Our preaching is not to vain
and our faith is not in vain.
Those who have: falien
asleep in Christ have not
perished, but are with their
Lord who was the first fruits
from the dead (see I Cor. 15:
20-231.
We as Christians, In
Christ, are not the most
miserable of men! How can
we be when we see beyond
death's door, eternal life and
fulfihpent of the purpose for
which man was originally
created.
