adjusting
Huronview, Huron County's home for the aged, is
being called upon more and more to fill the function
of a nursing home, and it has been adjusting' to meet
the. challenge, Administrator Wayne Lester told
•
The majority:of people•admitted-to Huronview to- „
day are people who need more nursing care, he ex-
plained. Consequently a number of beds in the-Nor-
mal
heNor-
mal Care are not being used. .. ,
To cope with the•need, the entire 38 beds of Ground
Floor North•have been switched to heavy bed care,
with arounilthe-cloekstaffing, he said. •
He reported that as of last week, 296 beds at Huron -
view were occupied and only 14 were empty. By this
week he expected to have five of those filled, he add-
ed. •
He said that :while last month there were 39 names
• on the waiting list, this month there are 21; some peo-
ple diedand a lot were admitted to the home.
• He told councillors' to expect questions why people
have been moved around in Huronview, explaining it
vyas to accommodate the additional nursing care.
• He'also warned -council it /aces a bill of -$100;000 to
replace the heating system in the Normal Care wing
some time within the next two to three years.
The system, which was installed in 1953,'has sprung
some leaks, he said, and while it can be repaired tem-
porarily there is no guarantee how' long the repairs
will hold. He suggested. council should start planning
to replace it in 1983.
Council
expenses only
cover one year
A story in last week's paper indicated town council
spent over $7,000 in expenses for councillors at-
tending conferences and seminars during the 1979-80
term.
The expense report, in fact, only covers the year
1980.
During that one-year period, expenses in the
amount of $7,056 were approved for councillors at-
tending seminars and conferences out of town.
Former reeve, Eileen Palmer had expenses of.
$2,193 during the year, most of which was spent at-
tending conferences sponsored by the Association of
'Municipalities of Ontario. Councillor Elsa Haydon,
president of the Ontario Parks Association,. had $2,077
in expenses.
Other expenses ' included $1,289 for Mayor
Harry Worsell, $775 for deputy -reeve Bob Allen, Stan
Profit $336, Brian Knights $102 and Jim Searls $280.
Councillors John Doherty and Jim Magee had no
expense report for 1980.
