atoms in semi-final
The . Goderich Machinist
Atoms were eliminated from
further OMH&playoff.actio_n
last Wednesday night in
Goderich when they were
defeated 8-4 by Stoneybrook
in the semi-finals.
Stoneybrook opened up the
scoring in the first period but
Goderich tied things up one
minute later with a goal by
Darren Stanbury assisted by
Scott Garrow and Bill
Trebish. Goderich then went
ahead on a goal by Garrow
assisted by Byron Bowman.
By the end of the first period
_.however, Stoneybrook had
tied things up again:
Stoneybrook went ahead
by one goal in the second
period and in the third period
they outscored the Goderich
boys five goals to two.
Goderich's two were scored
by Garrow assisted by Jim
Kelly and Terry Pan-
nabecker and Garrow
assisted by Bowman.
Although the Goderich
ditt
Atoms‘were defeated three
games straight by
Stoneybrook in the -three -out.
of -five series, Coach . Steve
Buchanan ` said they had
nothing to be ashamed of.
Considering that Goderich is
a 'B' team and Stoneybrook
is a major 'A' team, the local
boys played as well as could
be expected and Buchanan
said he was proud that they
had gotten as far in the
playoffs as they did. He said
he was also pleased with the
support the Atoms had
received from the com-
me pity ass -evidenced by the
large attendance at last
Wednesday's game.
Stoneybrook will now goon
to play the winner of the
Essex -Leamington series for
the OMHA championship.
The Goderich team has yet
to compete in• an Atom
tournament in Acton on
March 28 before hanging up
their skates for another
season.
Fun day held
Hodge's Mill and.Elevator
of Dungannon sponsored a
'Men's Curling Fun Day' on
Saturday, 'March 21. Lots of
fun was in progress until the
spring thaw set in. In spite of
this handicap, two games
were played in each draw
and winners declared.
Winner of the 9 a.m. draw
was Ralph Foster and his
team of Paul Betties, Rod
Johnston and Charles Orr.
Second place was Len
Bowman, Ross Eedy, Dan
Durst and Ken Hodge. Third
place was John McKenzie's
rink with Keith Fisher, Glen
Ribey and Hugh Feagan.
King Cam Bogie and his
team of Len Fisher, Girvin
Reid and John Stoll took
fourth place.
The 11 a.m. draw was won
by. Bill Robertson with Joe
Hunking, George Smythe
and °` John Peters. Second
place went to Jim Hawkins
and his team of David
Hawkins, Don Scott and
Randy Scott. Don McKenzie,
bon Curran, Frazer Huyck
and Bob Jewell took third
place, while the fourth place
went to skip Tom Eadie and
his team of Steve Huff, Jud
Milburn and Dan Willis.
Draws for maple' syrup
were won by Eric Moore and
Hugh Feagan while' the vice
grips were won by Reg Riehl
and ' John McKenzie. Steve
Huff and Charles Culbert
won the vice grips given as
prizes during the lively
Chinese auction.
The curlers sat down to a
delicious meal catered to by
Linda Freeman and then
rounded out the rest of the
evening with some, rousing
games of cards.
