Sunset Golf Club defeated
the Optimist Green Machine
4-2 Monday night to capture
their opening round CHHL
playoff series two games to
one.
The Green Machine, sixth
place finishers this year,
. surprised Sunset in the open-
ing game last Wednesday by
defeating last year's league
champions 7-5.
Ben Worsell scored three
goals including The winner
and Terry Meriam added
two as the 'Green Machine
erased an early 4-1 Sunset
lead to record the victory.
Sunset evened the series at
a game apiece Sunday night
with a 7-4 win.
The Golf Club put the
game away quickly,
outscoring the Green,
Machine 4-0 in the first
Period and 3-1 in the second
for a 7-1 lead after two
periods, forcing the third
and deciding game.
Following the pattern set
in the previous games,
Sunset took an early lead on
first period goals by Jim

The "GCs" shad their
chances to grab the gory but
were unable to do it. Par-
ticularly heartbreaking was
a missed opportunity to
score four in the fifth end as
"GC" skip Tom Jasper hit a
tricky streak of ice and
watched his last rock glide
by the target. The royal
Forester foursome's reign,
unfortunately will be shorter
than Joe . Clarkes since the

Local 1863 stayed only one
upset away from returning
to first place by defeating the
Lady Golfers 10 to 4. Charlie
Crawford led the onslaught
for the cion foursome despite
a nagging injury.
Crawford's efforts were
{Hatched by teammate
Roger Moore. The Lady
Golfers put up a spirited
fight in five early ends but
the talented Local out-
manoeuvred them as the
game progressed .

Ladies' secret weapon code
named "Geraldine" was not
enough to prevent defeat.
The GDCI Vikings and the
Huron Health Unit remain
locked in a ti for fourth
place. The Vikings overcame
a manpower shortage to
recnrd their eleventh
triumph by defeating the
Teacher Ink. unit 11 to 3.
Lou De Winter took the
controls in this contest and
performed admirably while
both Del Mitchelmore and
Steve Taraba curled with
gusto. Although the score
appears one-sided many of
the ends were decided with
the final shots. Angus
MacLennan and Trudy
Stubbings both made more
than a few fine shots in the
competition.
The Huron Health Unit
once again used the
"distract and conquer"
technique to defeat the GDCI
Teachers No. 1 foursome 10
to 6. The distraction was
Health Unit skip Laurie
Paquette who also played the
main role in the conquering.
Skip Paquette started
slowly but by the end of the
game she was clearly in
control of her team and the
opposition. Her ,"Walk
quietly but carry a big
broom" style of leadership
got the most out of team-
mates Orr and MacKinnon
while her precise accuracy
frustrated the overworked
teachers as they watched an
early lead disappear and
their winning streak come to
an abrupt halt at one game.
The GDCI Teacher No. 2
contingent enjoyed greater
crew but thae educators
bounced back With three in
the fifth and eventually tied
the game in the final end.

in the comeback while Chris
Connor can take credit for
scoring the winning point in
the extra end.
Once ' again, however,
Connor was denied . the
. "game rock". The Hospital
unit played , vigourously
despite , being short-handed
with Mike Cox, Craig Cass
and Elmer Taylor all curling
well despite the cir-
cumstances.
The GDCI victory moved
them into a tie with the the Lady Foresters. Behind a

This was shown in their
contest with the Elementary

Don Budnark and associates

then proceeded to dominate
the rest of the game.
Obviously, sometime in
the past these ladies have
