"For the past eight years, Ontario's Experience Program has given young people a unique opportunity to gain work experience during the summer mon- ths", said the Honourable Margaret Birch, Provincial Secretary for Social Development and Minister responsible for the Experience Program. Co -o rd in ate d by the Ontario Youth Secretariat, Experience '81 'is actually made up of 102 programs in 24 provincial ministries..In order to provide as many young people as possible with career -oriented jobs, all positions pay the provincial minimum wage. The benefits offered by the Experience Program do not just apply to 'the young people who are employed. "The program has proved to be quite advantageous for Ontario's communities", said "Mr.. Terry D. Jones, Parliamentary Assistant responsible :for the Youth Secretariat. • "Community .information • centres, psychiatric hospitals, libraries, conservation authorities and social . ser- vice ervice agencies, have been able, to increase their ,ser- ; vices through the useof summer student assistan= ce." The Ontario Youth Secretariat has published a guidebook to the Experience '81 Program outlining fur- ther details on the individual positions. These guidebooks and application forms are available at high schools,. college ' and university placement centres and Canada. Employment Centres across Ontario. Fund set up for family WINGHAM - A fund set up following a recent fire in East Wawanosh Township has shown the willingness of the people in the community to hell out in times of need. Lottie Scott and her family lost their home and possessions in a house fire on February 5, and the following morning a fund was started by the Belgrave K.insme n CLu b. Depots for donations of clothing, furniture and household supplies have been set up and a bank ac- count for cash donations was opened at the Toronto - Dominion Bank in Wingham. To date, local businesses and individuals have deposited' more than$7,000 in the account and 'enough furniture has been received to fill a new home, made available to the family be a neighbor.
