As a citizens' group, our major concern is with the manner in which that an- nouncement was made and the dangerous implications behind that announcement - implications which affect all of Ontario. For when the government announced its decision, it stated that there would be 'no Environmental Assessment Hearings nor Expropriation Hearings. We are not saying, nor have we ever said, that we don't want the `dump' in our backyard. All we have ever asked for is our richt, accor- ding to existing legislation, to a full Environmental Assessment Hearing in order that ALL the facts be brought out, both pro and con, so that Ontario will not have to de i...with its own LOVE C The number of organiza- tions and associations endor- sing our demands for such a hearing is . growing, and while too numerous to list, they, do include: Canadian • Environmental Law -Association, Pollution Pro- be, Greenpeace, Baptist Convention of Ontario and , Quebec, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, . Consumers' Association of Canada (On- tario), Ontario Christian Sarsners plus some 250 On- tario municipalities. We, as citizens, are being extremely reasonable about this issue - we are asking for nothing more; nor will we settle for anything less, than a hearing under the En- vironmental Assessment Act. The Ontario govern- ment has. chosen to circum- vent its own legislation and refuses to listen to us. • We urge you.. to•consider the seriousness of this pro- , blem - for, while this par- ticular topic is South Cayuga and an environmental issue - if the government's dic- tatorial attitude goes un- challenged - next time it could be YOU and YOUR COMMUNITY over another issue. If the government cares so little for the rights of 40,000 people in our• area, do you really think they will care or listen to you? Think carefully before you cast your vote on March 19. Yours truly, Rene Tunney Rene Tunney, for H.O.P.E. (Haldimand-Norfolk Organization for a Pure En- vironment), P.O. Box 10, RR 9, Dunnville, Ontario. Impressed by ceremony Dear Editor, An open letter to Mayor Harry Worsen: What a beautiful St. Valentine's day gift Goderich has given Terry Fox - the most beautiful one of all - the gift of love! He gave it to us in °his Marathon of Hope and. Goderich has responded in kind - giving it from their hearts, from the ,:oldest to the youngest at- tending the "Candles of Hope Vigil" held February 14 at the Court House. I was greatly impressed by the dignity and the sim- plicity off that _beautiful evening and 1 shall never forget tit 1 came by bus from Toronto when I heard about it and I was so happy to be there and to be part of it. Thank you, Goderich - it's towns like yours and people like you - and Terry Fox that make me proud I'm a c.21rnadiiAn! ! Forever grateful for a beautiful „,•,,.., memory, Is evolution a fairy tale? Dear Editor: How does the theory off evolution compare to Nazism? Hitler said "Give me a child- until he is seven,, and he is mine." The evolutiontheory is - we must reach children at an early age. The philosophy ad- vocated by Goebbels (Hitler's minister of propaganda) was: tell a lie, give it a wide circulation, be persistent, make it fantastic enough, and eventually the ones who believe . it will create facts for it. The theory of evolution has - proved this to be true, because the ones who believe in it have tried, over the years, to prove it as a fact. The Hitler youth betrayed their own families, and Yours truly, Armellini, Toronto. eventually became Stor- mtroopers and Gestapo agents. We have yet toex periencewhat would happen to youth trained in -the evolution theory. An adult learning is able to distinguish between fiction and fact. When a child learns, he o r she takes it with trust, and it remains ` with him or. her. Shduldthe theory of evolution be allowed to eventually revolutionize our society, and destroy the family unit? I. think the thebi'y 'of evolution should be placed in its proper perspective because 'of a lack of evidence, with the rest of the fairy tales Once upon a time. Sincerely, Minaker GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25,1961—PAGE 5 nstett Jewellers LIMITED E ALBERT ST., CI.INTON 4614907 I I AT THE MAIN CORNER j WE'RE AT YOUR SERVICE... i i •On -staff goldsmith for repairs to fine IesvIlery •in-store watch repairs, including battery installations Y *Fast In-store engraving 3 •In-store ring sizing 3 •Appraisals by our on -staff Certified f_j•mologist 1 ;,(AOS).i f.
