Blyth also defeated Whetstone Jewellers 7-3, Port Elgin 12- 4, and SunsetGolf,9-2 on their way to earning 8250 first prize money. Itwas the second tour- nament ournament trophy for Blyth who won the consolation championship last year. Seaforth earned their way into the finals_ with victories over O'Briens Meats 9-2, Holmesville Rockets 3-1, and Let -2e AELSIt irs 5-a me the loss, :Seaforth was presented $17, for the second place finish. This year's consolation championship went to Goderich's O'Briens Meats. They defeated Southampton 4-2 in the final and picked up $150 for their efforts. SoutI niton received •8100: It was the second consolation in three years for O'Brien who rebounded from a 9-2 loss- to Seaforth in the - opening round to record 6-1 and 5-3 victories over Parkhill and Zurich before' the ff-inaL Southampton suffered a 4-3 loss to Sunset in their first game then defeated Seafortiii B 7-0 and d Forest 5-1. Stu Asher of O'Briens. Meats - was named the tournament's Outstanding Player and was presented with a trophy and a cheque for $25. Goderich teams were well represented, winning six of 11 games with four of the five dosses coating at the hands of the two finalists. Each year the tournament becomes bigger and better and this vear breakfast was served both Saturday and Sunday morning, and chili and sandwiches were made available throughout the weekend. As was the case last yea}', the free admittance dance held Saturday night was a big success. This year's organizers. Sunset Golf, should be congratulated for their ef- forts fforts on behalf of the league. So too should the Optimist Club" who cooked for the tournament. Regular CHHL play resumes Wednesday when O'Briens takes on Whetstone Jewellers. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Goderich Sailors in battle for points As the Goderich Sailors' regular season winds down, the lnteranediate C team finds itself in a close three- waybattle for second and third place in the standings. Presently, the Sailors are in fifth position with Wingham and Lucknow tied for third. The Sailors' . last , two ' games were against Wingham and Lucknow with Wingham winning 5-2 on January 23 and Goderich beating the lancers 5-2 last Friday evening. In the game in Lueknow, the Lancers' Grant Clark opened the scor rig in the first period only to have Jerry Rozendal score for the Sailors in the same minute of play. The Sailors notched another one in that period to take the lead on a goal by Lee Arbour assisted by Graham Hamilton and Dave Bartliff. Three second period short- handed goals put the Sailors Bantams tie Lucan The Goderich Bantams played Lucan to a 5-5 tie here last Wednesday in Shamrock Hockey League action. Lucan took a 2-1 lead in the first period of the back and forth game, with Goderich's John Graham scoring on a play set up by Daryl Madge. By the end of the second period, the score was4tied at three apiece. Grah m scored his second wi Madge assisting ado with Jeff LeBeau. Madge then netted one at the ten minute mark with LeBeau drawing the assist. I,ucan scored before the end of the second to tie it then notched another at the beginning of the third to reverse the lead. LeBeau tied it up with an unassisted goal at 2:23 to even the game again. Peter Stahl l put the Ban- tamsaheadby one at6:20of the last period with Trevor Erb assisting. However, the locals couldn't hold onto the lead as Lucan scored with a minute remaining to earn the tie. ahead 5-1. Rozendal scored a minute and a half into the period on a play set up by Steve Meriam and Kevin Meriam. Arbour then got his second of the game with Paul Kelly and, Rozendal drawing assists. Kelly scored the - Sailors' fifth goal on an unassisted play. The Lancers' other goal came in the third period off mime L_ SIAAI-4P the stick of Randy Alton. The previous Friday in MI - Ingham, four first period Royal goals put thescore in favor of Wingham. Graham Hamilton netted a goal for the Sailors near the end of the first period, while Kevin Meriam scored on in the second. Tonight the Sailors travel to . Hermiston to play the Blues. Friday, February 6 ,. 5.so'r w x, the Sailors play host to the 8:30. This will complete the second -place Mildmay Sailors' regular home Monarchs. Game time is schedule for the season. Tuesday, coach Ray Don- nelly's , squad outpointed` South Huron, 431 to 121, and Listowel 381 to 131 but lost out to Stratford Nor- thwestern, 321 to 191/2. Brian Shewfelt, John Shea.-.dnwn- Riek Mac- Donald and Steve Boyce won all three of their bouts and were undefeated. Brent Williamson won three of his four matches. Steve Berry wast -1 as was Mark Blaney. Checking in with 1-1 records were Del Bedard, Mark Carman,Dave Kalbfleisch, Dave McDonald and Jeff Wood. Tim Rawl- ings was 1-2 while Randy Chawman and T, --`,q Lalonde lost their only bouts. Randy Anderson won his single match in the -57.5 kilo class.
