First one - Gram and GramPas, when ALL the kids and their kids came home on the Sunday- acid the second One, the kids stayed home - the Gram and Gramps visited or had Open House for family and friends: Great idea, Fran. I thought I'd be ready to go south but by this time, I had a rotten sines and hacking cough. The weather snaps didn't help either, and I sure wasn't up to fighting storms in Ohio or the `Tacky Mountains. So I kept waiting for better weather. THAT didn't help my situation AND the antifreeze in the rad was only good to 20 degrees below! Ft1 So I needed a licenced. mechanic - as THAT was a serious cough. BI 10 a.m. Friday: I mm11untmg -: by 12:I was ready to give •up when a group at one station said, "Try. Joe just down the street. He'll do it." I almost went back but luckily I asked and Joe said he could in a couple of hours! Seemed this was just another long weekend for everybody was closing at noon - FRIDAY! This small service station was on Wyandotte Street so I thought, "Fine, I'll shop a bit, have some lunch, and 11 willbe done". Well, I walked and walked, my ears were freezing, my nose was already red and running but there HAD to be a shopping centre in this district There WAS – years ago. It turned my stomach to see all those buildings for two or three blocks cloned, dirty and abandoned Finally I saw a restaurant on the opposite corner and I risked. my neck getting to it. I was just frozen! - I thawed and dawdled till I felt I had to leave -arid froze again on the way back. But the car was fixed. The mechanic explained how he had to put . bolts or nuts or screws - or something - in those four holes in the bot- tom of the motor ,block - on one • side (other side was still ok) because he couldn't get the parts he needed. "It will bold_ for a while," was the cheery message, WITH a smile, as I paid him eighteen bucks. Anyway, I went back to Dons without the noise of some one making a racket every time I slowed down. Before I thought what I was saying or had said, I started to carry out the suitcases and stuff. "It's three o'clock " you can't go now-!" I just knew I had to keep going or Spring would be sprung and I was still in Canada. Last year, after we left Detroit, there was no more snow. This year there was LOTS of snow for days but the roads were dry. So, an extra night in a motel, what the heck. I was tired or cold - but we were�n the way. Don and Fran never want a person to leave. It's real tempting. One of these days someone will take them up on it and that will be THAT i Outside of the very, very cold winds, we had a good trip. Even the mountains wereniceto us. Only once did a policeman sneak up and scare me. We were way down in Georgia and I'd kept my speed around 55 - 60.
