The Acton Redmen won
the Bluewater Midget Boys
Basketball Tournament here
Saturday by defeating Sar-
. nia St. Pat's Fighting Irish
• 47-45 in double overtime. -
The final was an exciting
climax to a very successful
tournament and brought
together the two class teams
of the one day tourney. Both
Acton and St. Pat's
demonstrated strong defen-
sive and disciplined offen-
sive play.
The Sarnia team led
throughout the champion- '
ship game until Acton's Scott
"AllonbY stole the ball to put
Acton ahead by two with 50
seconds remaining. St. Pat's.
• got'the ball back after a tur-
nover by, Acton and Larry
35 footer at the .•
buzzer forced the first over-
time.
The team was still
• deadlocked after the first
overtime session, but Acton
scored six quick points in the
second overtime and ap-
peared headed for victory.
St. Pat's got back within two
mints with four seconds to
go and had two shots within
the (Mal seconds but failed to
get thetying basket.
Acton got to the final by
. pounding Stratford Nor-
thwestern 63-29, led by Ran-
dy Layer's 12 points and then
beating London. Westminster
44,37 with Allonby getting 12.
St. Pat's had defeated In-
gersoll Blue _Bombers .61-26,
and" London South 50,33 to
reach the finals. Larry Karn
had .13 points fOr St. Pat's
against Ingersoll and Pete
Kaija had 20 againstSouth.
Stratford • Northwestern
won the consolation cham-

Kay Duncan had a terrific
game, putting the rocks in
the. circle for Sue White. And
Penny Peters,. smiling
sweetly as always, kept tak-
ing them out. Then, Mary
Ann Dempsey cleaned up
whatever el e had to be done
to beat Sue White's group.
Honourable mention goes
to Eileen Beauchemin this
week. She had some nice
take-outs. •
Last but not least, that is
unless one is talking of
points, Kay Duncan's team
defaulted to Nancy MacKin-
non's ladies.
The club was well
represented at the Seaforth
ladies' bonspiel. Phyrs team
is only going to enter seven
spiels from clow on. Emily,.
entering her first bonspiel
with great anticipation, is
still shaking her head. The
highlight of the day,: Kay
was "adamant" that
Eleanor stay as long as she.
wanted - and she did!. Con-
gratulations to Dempseys
and Edwards on their good
showing in Seagrams mixed.

first round ' game 50-21 to
London South. Chris Atkin-
son led South with 13 points.
Geof Chase led the. Goderich
attack ivithSix points.
Joe Melady and • John
Thompson had four each for
the Vikings. Paul Brenner,
Terry Bean , and,. Kent
Feagan had two 'points
apiece .and Mike McCallum
had one. Turnovers hurt the
Vikings against the much
taller London South team.
The Vikings lost their se-
cond' game to Ingersoll, 54-
48. The Vikings were in this
one all the way, but their
downfall was their inability
to stop the Blue Bombers big
guard Doug Watt from driv-
ing to the basket. Watt had 21
points. Ingersoll also had the
edge in rebounding, but the
Vikings could still have won
if they had not missed so
many layups.
Joe Melady .was- a power-
ful force for Goderich with 21
.pciints. Daryl Madge- was, the
other • Viking in double
figures,. with 10 points. Kent _
Feagan had eight. John
Thompson and Geof Chase
had two each while Paul
Brenner, Mike McCallum
and Terry Bean had one
point apiece.

rang up their sixth win
without a loss in Huron -
Perth Conference boys
basketball play here last
Thursday when they drop-
ped the Norwell Redmen, 79-
23.

time it was the Vikings in
front by 39-15.

figures. Phil Aubin had 19
points, Jim Costello had 18

The GDCI Vikings
defeated the Norwell Red -
men 46 - 23 in Huron Perth
Conference junior boys
basketball here Thursday.
The Junior Vikings are now
undefeated after six league
games.
The Vikings were able to
utilize a variety of presses
and zone defences against
Norwell, who, were missing
several key players from
their lineup. Coach Lynn
Meyers' • Vikings were
clearly in control of the
game both offensively and
defensively, and' led 38 - 11 at
the half.
Don McCallum led the -
Viking attack with 19 points. ,
Ben Melick hooped seven,
and Chris Pitre added six.
Jeff Denomme and Kevin
Smith each had four points
and Andrew Telford had two.
Midgets 3 and 3

The GDCI midget boys
basketball team evened its
record at three wins and
three losses with a close 33 -.

last Thursday.
The game was a tight one,
with the- Vikingsbolding a 14
- 13 lead at half-time. Geof
Chase had 10 points to lead
the Viking attack. Kent
Feagan hit for eight points
and• Joe Melady added
seven. John Thompson had
four •points while , Paul
Brenner and Daryl Madge
each had two.

The Vikings &got goo
rebounding at both ends, led
- by Melady with 11 and Chase
• with eight. The11 shooting
percentages, however, were
not good, with only one for
ten from the foul line and a 14
percent average from the
floor:
Defensively the Vikings
played well, but gave up too
many layups.
Coact Myles Murdock was
• pleased by the effort his
Vikings made and feels they
have shown great im-
provement over the course of
the season.
Wedlock and Dennis Aubin
checked in with eight points
each. Dan Freeman with
five, Kevin Adams and Scott
Bell with four each, and
Mike Murphy with two
points, rounded out the Vik-
ing attack. •
Next action for the Vikings
is Friday when they travel to
Exeter to tangle -with the
South Huron Panthers.
