Local 1868 crushes all comers
Local. 11163 continued to
crush all challenger; to their

moved into its ninth week of
competition. The union

what it is like to beon the top
and the target for all other
teams. The Teachers Ink.
mit t curled: their finest game
of the season to lake the
league leaders right to the
wire before they joined the
long list of teams downed by
the local - foursome. Skip
Marty Bond wa s particularly
efficient as he demonstrated
with a textbook perfect draw
to tie the match in the sixth
but the combined talent of
the first place "Champions"
was too much to handle.
Second place is now in the
hands of only two teams -the
AM,G "GCs" and the
Foresters, The Foresters'
victory over the Huron
Haven unit was a rarity. The
winning team won only two
of the games eight ends yet
won them big enough to
claim the triumph. Acc r -
ding to vice skip John Kuran,
a gamble fora big end in the
second backfired on Kuran
and co. as theForesters final
shots turned the end into a
trig one for them instead of
Huron Haven. The four
points that were scored in
this end equalled all the
points the Foresters allowed
their opponents to score
throughout the match as
they blanked two ends and
scared two more points in
fifth to seal this unusual win..
Following the final rock of
the game, Forester snip Cam
Bogie presented teammate
Jamieson Ribey with his own
personalized copy of the
league schedule anda
detailed map on how to reach
the Maitland Club.
The AM,G "GCs" and the
G.D.C.I. Vdkings met in the
battle of the initials and just
as the AM,G "GCB',' have a
few more in their name than
the G.D.C.I. studen.tsso their
match ended with the
"GC's" just ahead .of the

score. Throughout the match
the talented Vikings drew
attention to their ice with
their powerful sweeping;
enthusiastic en-
couragements, to one
anotheior their excellent
curling but in the end it was
the quiet and calm ex-
perience of veteran curlers
Eke Dennis Miele and Ron

entitled them to a piece of
third place. Joy and John
Orr demonstrated that the
family that curls together
stays together as they
combined their talents_ to
lead the way for the winners.
Barry Page and Karen
Gilchrist also canbined in a
fine effort but it was not
enough to stop the Health
Unit's combination of
husband and wfife, inspector
andnuuse.

At the other end of the
spectrum was the thrilling
extra" end confrontation
between the Champion Sales
Office and the Lady
Foresters. Forester •skip
-Bernice Moore •indicated
early that she meant
business as she executed a
perfect double take out with
her last rock on the opening
end to score a pair for the
Ladies:.Her opposition, Bill
Hayward let Ms Moore know
he and his team also had
come tg play as they
rebounded to score three in
the next end. The opening
stanzas to this drama were
indicative of the match and
when Heather Jewell's lead
rock proved to be un-
touchable in the extra end
the Lady .Foresters could
claim an exciting 7 to 6
triumph.
Paul Schuett continued to
celebrate the birth of his

tricky. shots which they
usually made expertly. Only
the strong curling of Barb
