Strong third period:
The Goderich Machinist
Moms came on strong in the
third period to beat the
Exeter Atoms 9-3 during
Shamrock League play in
G_ oderichSaturday.
Byron Bowman opened up
the scoring for ,Goderich
early in the first period with
an assist from Scott Garrow.
Garrow then scored an
„unassisted goal a few
minutes later to put
Goderich ahead by two.
Exeter scored early m the
second period and then again
at the beginning of the third
period to tie things up.
Goderich came back
strong, scoring four goals in
In four minutes. The first of
these was by Bill Whetstone,
assisted by Darren Stanbury
and Jeff Boyce; the second
by Jimmy Kelly assisted by
Garrow; the third by David
Brown assisted by Garrow;
and the fourth by Stanbury
assisted by Greg De Winter
and Whetstone.
Exeter broke this scoring
spree by getting one more
goal of their own but
Goderich came on strong
again with tare more goals,
all by Garrow with an assist
from Bowman and one from
Kelly.
The Goderich Atoms
record now stands at 13 wins,
two ties and three losses.
This weekend the team
will travel to Seaforth to
participate in the Optimist
Club's Atom tournament
there. Ther; will ,meet the
London Atom team first on
Friday night.
Lights on in time
Neither wind, snow, rain
or lack of lights will prevent
Tuesday. Ladies Curling
from taking place. For-
tunately, as we prepared to
play, the lights went on,
although Lynn Todgham's
team may have wished the
lights had remained off.
Eleanor Erksine, ' who
hasn't played much this
year, proved ''that she just
keeps getting better. Along
with Dead -eye Kay King and
their terrific lead they beat
Lynn's team soundly. Oh
well, next week Lynn things
have to improve. •
Georgia Ball threw some
good draty weight shots to
aid her skip Phil Durst.
However, Nancy MacKinnon
- and -her -team were not to be
beaten. Her vice, Vicki
Culbert had an excellent
game though surprisingly
void of jokes. And Phil
Lawrence is continually
showing the old pros what
good delivery lookslike.
The power on Kay Dun -
can's team was Carol Hunter .
who curled an excellent
game. Sally MacEwan, a
perfectionist, is busy learn-
ing to use her new slider. She
hopes to be sweeping the
debris off the ice with the
rest of us soon.
With a threat and a pro-
mise, Kay led her girls to
victory over Mary Anne
Depmsey's team. Her vice
Penny Peters' comment on
the results of the game was,
Three wore hats •and one •
didn't."
