There- are a couple . of
women .. in town who are
interested in forming a
Mastectomy Association.
They have no definite plans
in mind other than forming a
bond among women with
similar anxieties, fears and
physical impairments. They
strongly believe that any.
encouragement the group's
members could, give to one
another would be beneficial
both physically and men-
tally. They feel that a
mastectomy is a pretty
devastating experience that
probably only those who
have been through it can
understand ..
Any women in the .county
who might be interested in
forming such an association,
should .phone 524-9427 or 524-
6608.

decrease, in .1980
An across-the-board
decrease in accidents
reported by the Ontario Pro-
vincial Police last year was
the highlight of statistics
released by OPP Commis-
sioner, H. H. Graham
recently.
Fatal accidents went down
from 795 in 1979 to 786 in 1980.
The number of personal in-
jury' accidents was down
from 20,982 in. 1979 to 20,198
in 1980 and 32,118 persons
were injured in 1980, a five
percent decrease.
"The whole purpose of our
traffic patrols„is to reduce
traffic accidents and I am
convinced that the efforts of
the police officer on patrol
are the main reason for the
reduction in accidents,” said
Commissioner Graham.
Commissioner . Graham
also credited continued en-
forcement 'of the seat belt
sections of . the Highway
Traffic Act as a factor in the
reduction of persons injured.
OPP officers laid 28,243 seat
belt chargcPof es 7 last year,percs'nt anov•in-

1979:
Although accidents were
down, crime figures showed
a definite upswing. The total
number of Criminal Code of-
fences reported to the OPP
reached an all-time high at
95,199. This is a 4.6 percent
increase.
The largest increase came
in the category of fraud of-
fences, up to 4,127 from 3,748
last year. This increase is
explained in part by a
December 1980 case in which
one than was charged with
304 counts of . credit and:
fraud. -
Commissioner Graham
noted that wilful damage of,
fences decreased last year.
The 1980 total stands at
.16,172, down.3.6 percent..
"Homicides totalled . 35 in
1980, down from 40. Attemp-
ted.. homicides were up
slightly at 37, two more than
investigated in 1979.
Seventy-seven rapes were
reported to the OPP, five

year.
