_Skater&to: compete in Winnipeg Debbie Hotton and Curtis Moore, two Goderich Figure Skating .Qub members, will be travelling to Winnipeg this' month to compete in the divisionals as represen- tatives of the Western Section. Debbie and Curtis placed fifth in the sectionals, and after the fourth place couple split up, thetwo 14 -year-olds were invited to Winnipeg in their place to skate on January 17. Debbie is the daughter of Everett and June Horton of Goderich, and Curtis parents are Fred and Jacklin Moore of Wingham In other figure skating news, skaters had a very good day for testing on January 3. The following skaters passed tests: Susan Cook, Foxtrot; Lisa Fisher, European; Melanie Jeffrey, Fourteenth Step; Carol Dechert, Third Figure, Tango, and Rocker; Eileen Vollick, Second Figure; Aveleigh Cook, American and 'Rocker; -_John Barger, American - and Starlite; Debbie Horton and Cures Mcire wUl be competing << figure skating Divisionals in Winnipeg on January 17. In the morning they were beaten 3-2 by Sunset_ Golf Club. Then, when Clinton - based Hodges Mill had to cancel because -of weather conditions, the Green Machine agreed to play Whetstones and again last by , onegoal, 5.4. East-West teams were led by Edith and Arnold Schaus ..of Stratford with 791.2 while average score 'was 70. Se- cond were Mary Donnelly and Eleanor Erskine with 75 and third with 72 were Betty and Ray Fisher. Midgets split games at Glencoe tourney ' The. ' Goderich Midgets played an exhibition hockey match against' Lucknow here an Saturday and came away with a 4-2 win. The score was tied at two at the end of the second period with Goderich taking the lead after each goal. The, first was scored by Tom Smith at 9:42 of the first period, and Keith Hallum scored on a play set up by Jeff Feagan. Smith scored the winner for the Midgets at 3:14" of the. final period with assistance from Hallum and Andrew Telford. Direli Graham got the insurance goal at the ten minute mark. He was assisted by John Peters. Recently, ` the. Midgets travelled to Glencoe to take part in the Glencoe Legion Midget Tournament and split games there. Goderich came from behind to beat Exeter 3-2 in the first game. Exeter scored twicein the first period, the first on a power play. Then, right off the face- off, they scored again to take After a scoreless second period, Goderich's Jim Mathers put one in the net to make it 2-1. With less than two ` Minutes remaining in the game arid Exeter a man short, Ray Vanstone scored on a play set up by Andrew Telford. ' Exeter then-` ran into another penalty, giving the Midgets a chance to shovel in the winner which came off the stick of Jeff Feagan with 20 seconds left in the game. The locals did n -qt fare so well in their second game, this time a 4-2 loss to Sarnia. • Mark Crawford scored the first g3al of the game to put Goderich ahead 1-0 on a play set up by Darell Graham and Scott Stoll_ - -However, Sarnia answered with four consecutive goals to take -a commanding lead.. Feagan ' and John Peters. ions lose big The St. Marys Pee Wees hosted the Goderich Lions Pee Wees on Saturday and defeated them handily 7-3. • • These two teams hadtmet • • three times previous 'to ' Saturday's game with the outcome in all three decided in the final minutes of the game. This contest was •a different stoy- as St. Marys scored just 30 seconds into the first period and then dominated' the 'rest of the garne. . The closest the locals got was 3-1 in thesecond period ; when Jim Beattie scored. from Mark Cauchy and Shawn Larder. The Lions'. other two ;goals came in the third period with 'Chris Sideristscoring from Dave Telford and Kevin Talbot; and Todd Jeffrey from Richard Boddy and Todd• Gelchrist. The next two weeks will be busy ones for .the Lions as. they play in Exeter Wed- nesday, attend the 'Legion Tourney Saturday, take in a Detc,pit Red Wing game Tuesday; compete in the Silver Stick at Watford on Friday, then play back home Saturday against Exeter.
