The Goderich Signal-Star, 1987-06-21, Page 3u it News osital to test spring disaster lan Members of the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital's Board of Governors learned from hospital administrator, Ken Engelstad, of a mock disaster planned for the spring at the boar d's June meeting held Monday evening at the hospital. Engelstad informed the members that the hospitab's Disaster Planning Committee is currently in the process of revising and up- dating the hospital disaster plan. "A number of changes are evident with regard to the plan in its present form," he noted. The conunittee is already planning a mock disaster for the spring of 1988. "We're looking at a mock bus disaster with 20 to 45 casualties," Engelstad explain- ed, .adding this will test the hospital's disaster plan skills. In other business, it was noted by Engelstad that an evaluation of the Goderich Cornmunity Psychiatric Service had been completed by a Ministry -of Health representative. •• • Fern Dezenhouse, program co-ordinator from the Community Mental Health Pro- grams Branch of the Ministry of Health, was in town June 11 to evaluate the service. She met with staff, clients, clients' families and other agencies in the area as well aS with hospital board chairman Richard and Ot- tewell and .administrator Ken Engelstad.,. "Miss Dezenhouse indicated that she was pleased °with the. program," Engelstad noted in his report, adding that 'a written evaluation will follow shorty and will be presented to the board at that time. The hospital is also looking into the possibility of forming a Foundation to con- trol the capital investments of the hospital and to act as the fund raising organization. Hospital administration personnel are currently looking into•the advantages and disadvantages of such a formation: . A reconune'ndational report will be presented to the hospital's finance committee in the fall of 1987. Stan Connelly, chairman of the property . Committee, informed the board of the com• - mittee's approval of two equipment' pur- chases. These includea lab microscope and a mobilization table for ,the physio -therapy department. These were on the r•apital budget and were purchased for under the budgeted amount," he said. The board was also informed by Connelly of the renovation project stage. He noted that all projects are advancing successfully and are on schedule. In closing, the board members were made aware of the appointment of Joyce Shack, director of nursing at the hospital, to the presidency of the College of Nurses, a regulatory body which governs registration requirements of Ontario, nurses. On June 18, Mark. Sully, Champion vice- president in charge of marketing, signed a deal with Banbury Engineering, a division of Petersville Industrial Ltd., Australia, making them Champion distributor in that country. Banbury Engineering, which also distributes heavy machinery from Britain and 'Nest Germany, among other coun- tries;agreed with Champion the time was right- for the company to return to the Austalian market. Banbury General Manager Garry R. Howes said a lower aRAWFD CDPIEHM_g___rdi —71 I Canadian dollar and a "new range of Champion products," should help the corn party's foreign sales. - Howes also said making Champion known again in Austalia will be a "slow, building process. "When a market's been neglected for a period of time it's not easy to start back up. However, because they (Champion • products) are competitively priced, that. should help us quite a bit," said Lowes. , 'Howes said the Australian grader market generally varies between sales of from 300 to 500 unit sales per year. 'Phis year has 'been slow however, and he predicts "it won't be arty higher. than 350, possibly lower than 300". ' Whatever the total market, 'Howes said his company is setting their sites on im- mediately grabbing 10 to 15 per cent ,of it for"Champion. • "In the long run, I think we can get it up to 25 ..per cant, the same as ( champion's market share) in America." i :r it rE;ltlt'1& til(;NAI -S l AR, Wl..l)NE:SI)AY, JUNE: 24, 1987 :S CANADA'S tARGEST AND BEST KNOWN RECORD STORE D8vl.1on of Carman ESocirornle• Bale.
