Members learn about shrubs and flowers
The Horticulture Society meeting was
held "Wednesday, June 9 at 8 pm in the
Community Hall. 0 Canada was sung with
Marjorie McDougall as pianist. The presi-i
dent Don Haines welcomed all. He read
tips on such things as shrubs and flowers
from a Horticultural calendar.
Minutes were read by secretary Anne.
Vincent and approved as read.
Treasurer's report was given by Elliott
Lapp: Roll call was answered by your
favourite rose. Dorothy Grange read an
article on vines and ivys that climb and
cover up etc. There was a :film on •"Plant
Propagation" showing from seeds to full
growth, how. and when to plant, by ger-
mination, cuttings, grafting and -,root hor-
mones and bud grafts from roses. This was
a very educated and informative film.
A skit "Doctors In" was performed with
Nancy Slater as Doctor and the patients
were Lois Haines, Dorothy Grange, Kay
Lapp and Erma Cartwright. Queen was
sting and lunch was served by Jean
plaetzer and kay Lapp and a social time
enjoyed. The next meeting will be Wednes-
day, September 9.
On June 8 at 8:30 am, members and
friends of the Walkerburn Club took off for
a days tour. Mr, John Hakkers was their
capable driver. The first stop was Glencoe
to tour the "Tender Footsies" warehouse.
Then on to visit "Uncle Tom's Cabin" at

Sunday June 21 after Church. Lets make 'a •

Sympathy is extended to Vernon •and
Pauline Glenn and family on the death of
his mother Mrs. Frank Glenn of Lucknow.
UCW general meeting will be June 24th
at 8 pm in celebration of the 25th anniver-
sary. Guest speaker will be Mrs,. Susan
Howson. Everyone welcome.

St. Jacob's spent the weekend at their

Dresden. It was very interesting: In the
afternoon "Libby's Glasswdrks" at
Wallaceburg ,was visited and a stropping
mall there. Dinner was enjoyed at the
Knotty Pine Jinn in London and then tired
but happy t� be home again. ,
The monthly meeting of the
Presbyterian WMS was held at the home of
Mrs: Carol Daer. The president Mrs. Mar-
tha Daer,presided and opened the meeting
with a poem. "What Must I Do." The devo-
tional period was in charge of Mrs.
Frances Clark. The Scripture portion was
taken from the 27th chapter of Acts. The
Meditation was titled "Be of Cheer,"
followed by prayer. Mrs. Marion Haggitt
had charge of the Study period.'She read a
chapter from. Cory Ten Boom's book
"Tramp For The Lord." The July meeting
Will be at the home of Mrs. Hazel Craig Ju-
ly 14 at 8 pm. •
Pastor Gary Shuttleworth conducted the
morning 'service at Knox. United Church
with Organ Prelude by Mrs. Gordon Gross.
Call To Worship, Prayer of Invocation and
Life and Work of Church were given and
Prayer of Confession and Words of
Assurance were followed by the Lord's
Prayer.
. Children's hymn "Tell Me The Old Old
Story" was sung and Pastor Shuttleworth
told»the children's story and they went to
Junior Congregation with teachers Janice
and Leona Cunningham and Linda Durnin,
"Bringing in the Sheaves" was sung. The
pastor's sermon was entitled "The Healing

If you have a weed that is new to your
farm or becoming a problem, the' Ontarib•
Weetl Alert program will interest you. Weed
Alert will identify your weed and add this in-
formation to a provincial data hank that
charts the movement of new and problem
weeds into new areas.
The first step in controlling a weed is to
know what it is.
You can take a fresh specimen, including
the roots. to your agricultural represen-
tative office, complete a report form and
have the specimen sent to the Guelph
Laboratory for identification or in 'Huron
and Perth you can call Pat Murray at
1-800-265-8502 to arrange for identification.
Pat is a simmer student working for the On-
tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food on
Weed Alert and other programs.
