A happy family reunion . took place
recently at Maitland Manor Nursing
Home. Mrs. Ida Brombole, of Asquith,
Saskatchewan, travelled to Goderich to
see her brother, Vito Barbaro, whomshe
hasn't seen for 25 years.
The chain of events started two months
ago when Vito - wad hospitalized and
seriously ill. The nursing home had only
Ida's address and had received a letter
from her at Christmas, time and were un-
sure if she was still there. Through the long
distance operator, Ida was finally con-
tacted. After that initial contact, Ida decid-
ed to come to visit her brother•. She talked
to her parish priest in Asquith, who con-
tacted the CWL in Saskatoon who, in turn,
contacted the President of the CWL Coun-
cil in London (Mrs. Sheila Howard). Sheila
in turn, contacted the past president of the
Goderich CWI, (Muriel Murphy).
Past president of the Goderich CWI,.
Genevieve Madden opened her home to
Icfa and also drove to London to meet her
at the airport to. bring her to Goderich.
Since then, Ida has toured Stratford,
Bayfield andsurrounding areas of
Goderich.
There were a few .anxious moments
when Ida and Vito were first reunited. Vito
filially acknowledged that .Ida .was his
sister with the help of family pictures
taken in Italy.
Vito has enjoyed some special meals
prepared by his sister at Gen's place and
brought it to Maitland Manor in a basket.
Ida was the guest of honour recently at a
farewell supper at Gen's home with new
friends Ida made while in Goderich.
Ida said she was very surprised that she
would • find such a warm hospitality in
Goderich.
"I am so pleased that- everyone is so
nice. I'll be going home with a happy heart
and no guilty feeling," she said. She said
she would like to thank all the staff at
Maitland Manor for being so kind to her
everytime she went to see her brother.
In many driving situations there are signs -
and signals that tell'you what to do. You gets
the message and you act accordingly. At
other times -there is no sign, no signal, no
tip-off of any kind. In fact, there are none
that can be given in some situations. Can
you pass that. car ahead or not? Can you
safely make' a left turn before oncoming
traffic arrives at the scene? Should you try
to' take that curve at your present rate of
speed?
There's no mechanical action of any kind
that•will give you the word, but the Ontario
Safety League offers this helpful rule — if in
doubt, don't!
