First, Mia Dalton who just recently won a Junior Citizenship Award has now been picked from some 500 ap- plicants across Canada to be one of thirty- one to receive the Terry Fox Award as a reward for her achievements in humanitarianism, athletics, scholastics , and other fields of endeavor. She is entitled to receive $3000.00 per year for up to four years towards her university education. Mia is also being sponsored by the Goderich Lion's Club, on a five week ex- change program to Belgium. The other young member of our Church community picked for special honours was Dan Martin who was chosen from the stu- dent body of Goderich District Collegiate Institute to attend a Athletic Leadership Camp for 2 weeks near OriIlia, Ontario. Chosen to represent the girls was Maureen Stapleton, a graduate of St. Joseph's School, Kingsbridge four years ago. The beautiful ceremony -of the May Crowning of Mary took place,. Sunday, May 31st with the children from kindergarten to Grade 8 taking part along with the beautiful singing of St. Joseph's Parish Choir with numerous songs in honour of Mary. Congratulations. to Delores Van Osch, who recently.received her 10 -year award as a 4-H leader. Also, congratulations to KINGSBRIDGE KINTAIL two other parish & 4-H members, Wendy Miltenburg who completed 12 4-H projects and to her brother Roger who completed 6. The Parish Advisory Board, is seeking volunteers to fill two positions on the board. The Board has decided to replace I+ c.� the Rectory roof and to recover the kitchen floor in the Rectory as well. The Parish Garage Sale is next Saturday morning. June 6 beginning at 10 a.m. Come one and all. The Grade 7 & 8's hosted a dance for the students from St. Columban, St. Joseph's Clinton & St. Mary's Goderich on'Friday, May 22. On May 27th the Grade 7 & 8's left the school at 5:00 a.m. for their long awaited' trip to Ottawa & district. A'tired but happy bunch of kids arrived back home Friday evening. It proved -to be a wonderful experience and a special thanks goes to teacher Phil Antonia for organizing and chaperoning the trip. The students of Mrs. Joanne Bullen's 3,4 class & Miss Tracey Devlin's 5,6 class en- joyed an outing to Doon Pioneer Village & Pioneer Sports World on 'Tues. June 2. Special' thanks to the parents who accom- panied the students. A treedonated by Mrs. Bernadine Kenny in memory of one of Kingsbridge's early settlers, William O'Neill, was • planted recently at the school in a ceremony at- tended by the school body, 'l'he tree was blessed by Fr. Ed. and then each of the classes gave a presentation on trees. The K,1,2,3 held their public speaking on ,Friday, May 29th. The judges, Mrs. Marian Zinn and Mrs. Cheryl Brydges had a difficult .time picking winners and a special thanks goes to them in carrying out this'difficult task. In Grade 3 the winners were 1) Laura Miltenburg 2) Cory Sherratt '3 ) Lisa Dykstra for their song ';Magic Penny" with the poem "An Information Bureau" the winners were 1) Beckv Martin 2) Ben Brophy. All the participants were given a silver 'dollar as were several pre-school. children • who very bravely got up.to sing.a song or recite a poem. The audience was very ap- preciative of the effort put forth by all the children. CDCS stu-ents keepi usy CLINTON - Students at Clinton and. District Christian School have been busy the last two weeks. ' Two musicals were part of the activities. On May 11; Grade 4 '- 8 enjoyed, entertain- ment' at the Clinton .Public School, as they performed their musical, Trail of, '98 in 'dress rehearsal. On'May 13. the:choir per- formed the Musical,,Down By the Creekbank for residents nd day care'par- ticipants at Huronview. • Balloons were released, complete with name tags, May 15 in honor of the schools 25th anniversary celebration. •A steady nor- thwest wind carried off the 200 balloons: they anticipated some . responses from whoever May find one. Many students attended Klornpen F eest activities; many were on' the school float; many also participated in the choir during the Sunday afternoon service in the arena. May 20, was the culmination of the con- centration on ,people with special needs. Students and staff were much. enlightened by personal stories and information shared by the guest speakers. Classrooms were • visited by: Rev. Scott,- a•visually impaired minister from Goderich, George Turton - a paraplegic business man from Goderich, Ann Kikkert - mother of a visually impaired daughter: Linda Henken)a and Barbara Hicks representing the needs of the mental- ly disabled, and Rosemary Armstrong, coordinator of the Huron Day Centre for the Homebound. Through discussion, films and concrete materials, students gained a deeper insight of the life of a person livirig with a handicap. A sit down lunch for all was served in tho. school gymnasium by ladies of the PTA. In the afternoon, all classes participated in presenting a program of songs, skits and stories stressing a student's view of special needs and how a child can help. Thanks go to Trix Bradley, resource teacher, who plann- ed and coordinated the Special Needs Awareness weeks. Grade 5 and 6 enjoyed a class trip to Toronto Metro Zon on May 21. The school thanks Anneke Pardys and 'Pony Verburg for supervising students'on this outing. To finish the school year, students look forward to the Gr. 7/8 class trip, field day activities, and especially the 25th anniver- sary celebrations. Fancy sandwich meeting feature The Goderich and District after 5 club had its monthly meeting on Tuesday May 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Saltford Hall. The theme for the meeting was "M -M -Good" and featured a demonstration of "Marvellous Mouthfuls" ... fancy sandwiches. The demonstration was presented by .Janice Larsen of Kincardine and many helpful hints were given by .Janice as she encouraged all of us to try making these tempting treats for special occasions. The music was presented by Mary Hearn at 'Clinton who plays a harp. The melodies music of this instrument was a real treat for all. Mary's selection included ' The Rose and All Through the Night. Many ladies showed an interest in this instru- ment and Mary explained some of the in- tracies in playing the harp. Mrs. Eva Eagleson, a graduate nurse who now assists her doctor husband in his semi -retirement .practice near Coll- ingwood; was the speaker for the evening. Eva took us on a trip of faces and places in her life which have motivated her to live a full and joyous life. Her experiences were common to many of us and we appreciated her sincerity in showing how these same experiences could he turned into positive reinforcement of our beliefs. The next meeting will he held on June 23 featuring "Day Trips with a Difference."
