Bant'am team opens undefeated
Goderich Bantams first game of season
was against Belmore on May 20th with the
teams playing to a 2-2 tie. Goderich pitcher
Get¢ry Hartin tossed a fine two -hitter for
the Goderich team and helped .his own
cause by driving in one of the two Goderich
runs.
The first home game for Goderich was
cancelled by Lucknow.
May 28th saw Goderich travelling to
Cargill for a road game and defeating
Cargill 10-1 for their first win of the t3eason.
Although the final score may have in-
dicated a blowout, this was not the case.
Going into the top half of the sixth,
Goderich held a slim 2-0 lead but exploded
for seven runs in the sixth inning to put the
game away. •Mike Rompf threw a fine two -
hitter to gain the win and Mike Hurd paced
the batting attack, going two for four, in-
cluding a home run.
The first home game was played Sunday
at the Agricultural Park against Cargill.
Goderich was again victorious gaining a
10-3 win. Strong pitching by Mike Hurd
timely base hits, good base running and
excellent defensive play all contributed to
the Goderich win. Mike Hurd, Dan
Crawford, Mike Duckworth and Bob
Fellow combined for nine hits.
This year's, Bantam travelling teams
players are Brian Lane; Jamie Habel
Jeromrrre Denomme, Mike Duckworth,
Dan Crawford, Steve Sturdy, Shawn.Cur-
rie, Rob Dempsey, Mike Hurd, Mike
Alcock, Jerry Hartin, Bob Pellow, Mike
Rompf and Kevin Moss. Coaches are Mike
Russel() and Ray Hurd.
Superb pitching dominates Fastball

Action continued in the Goderich In-
dustrial Fastball -L,eague last week which
was dominated by superb' pitching
performances.
On May 25, Kirkey's and French played
to a 4-4 tie after extra innings. Both teas
started well as they .scored their leadoff
batters in the first inning. French took a
2-1 lead after Brian MacKenzie tripled and
was driven. in by Bob Johnston. Kirkey's
tied the game up when Jeff Denomme
tripled and later scored. They took the lead
in the next inning as Denomme and Dean
'Finelly had RBI singles as they went
ahead 4-2. They could not hold onto the
lead as French scored twice in the bottom
of the seventh to force extra innings.
French pitchers Don Bogie and Brian
MacKenzie spread seven hits over nine in-
nings. Kirkey's pitcher Terry Johnston
returned and allowed a mere three hits.
In the second game Sy- Langlois con-
tinued his dominance over opposing bat-
ters as he shut out'Daynamos 5-0: Langlois
,aliowed one hit, a first inning. single and
struck out fifteen. Meanwhile his son.
Grant got the winning RBI as he hit the
first homerun this season - a two run shot.
Sherwood scored three more times to en-
sure the win. •
On Tuesday, Goderich Tire' scored two
times in the first inning and hung on to win
3-0 over the Orioles. John Bogie only allow-
ed five hits in getting^,the win and Dave
Gallow and Dana Doherty scored in the
first when Harold Peet and Dan Durst got
the RBI's. In the fifth inning Peet singled
to score Mike Ryan.
Inthe second game Hayter's won a close
3-2 game over the Juniors. Hayter's
started early when they scored twice in
first inning. Brent Williamson and Dave
Scholl scored on singles by Phil Petrie and
Gary Cox. The Juniors came right back
when Paul Nivens singled, Mark
Ducharmo tripled to bring in Nivins and
Darryl Black singled in Ducharme to tie
the game. But then Hayter pitcher Paul
Corriveau shut the door, as he held the
Juniors hitless for the rest of the game:
Hayter's won the game in the fifth when
Phil Petrie tripled and Mark Frayne singl-
ed him in. lOn Wednesday, French
defeated Sherwood 5-1. Bob Johnston of
French got the season's second home run,
a single shot in the sixth inning. French
pitcher Don Bogie threw a one -hitter,
allowed one unearned run and struck out
nine. Ed Johnston and Bogie scored in the
third and Kevin Jewell had two RBI's in.
bringing in George Sutton and Dave
Schock in the fifth to provide all the .,of-
fence needed to win 1. •
In the nightcap Kirkey's hammered
Norholme 7-0 to mercy them after five inn-
ings. Kirkey pitcher Dean Finelly pitched
a one -hit shutout to earn. the win. Finelly
and John Lehay each had two RBI's .and
Bob Orr had an inside the park homer to
lead Kirkey's offensively.
On Thursday, Orioles won a wild game
over Denomme's 9-7. The Orioles built a
two run lead when Brian Rumig and Steve .
Haggitt batted in runs. Denomme's carne
right back and scored three times in the
bottom of the inning. Will Denomme, John
Verwey and Barry Block each brought in
runs. Orioles went ahead 4-3 in the next in-
ning when Steve Arbour tripled, Greg
Ger.din walked and Darryl Beattie doubled
to bring them in. Again, Denomme's
fought back scoring three times in the
third, Brian Moody led off with the .
league's third homerun of the year and'
De'nomme and Verwey scored later in the
inning. Denomme's ran into trouble when
one of their fielders left the game injured,
and Denommes had to play with eight
players. Orioles took advantage of this and
scored two runs each in the fifth and sixth
and once again in the seventh.
Haggitt went 3-4 and had two RBI's for
the Orioles while Denomme had two hits,
two walks and two RBI's in a losing effort.
Games continue all this week.

Low net on men's night was Bill Ross. He
complained of sciatica during the whole
round, but still man, aged to shoot a 42. Not
bad for a 24 handicap.

The Goderich Senior Games were held in
conjuction with Canada's . Fitweek this
year from May 22-31.
Seniors (age 55 and over) participated in
• • a wide range of events such as: bridge,
cribbage, darts euchre, bowling, golf,
horseshoes and shuffleboard.
The tennis event scheduled for May 30 at
the Maitland tennis club was cancelled.
Winners from each event advance to the
district games in Seaforth on June 22-23.
Provincial games will not .be held this
' year.

BY-LAW NUMBER 22
A by -Law to regulate the use of water for gardening and other purposes in the Town of
Goderich, passed„on October 9, 1980.
WHEREAS by virtue of the provisions contained in The Public. Utilities Act, R.S.A. 1970,
Chapter 390, Section 12, a municipal corporation may pass by' -laws for regulating, among
other things, the time, manner, extent and nature of the supply by the works, the building
or person to which and to whom water shall be furnished and every other matter or thing
related to or connected therewithin order to secure to the inhabitants of the municipality
a continued and abundant supply of pure and wholesome water;
AND WHEREAS pursuant to Section 41, Sub-section1 of the said Act, where a coinmis-
sion has been established, all the powers, rights, authorities and privileges that are by
the Act conferred on a municipal corporation shall be exercised by the commission;
AND WHEREAS it is deemed desirable to regulate the hours and conditions under which
water shall be supplied for the purpose of watering lawns and other areas within the Town
of Goderich and to provide for offences for contravention of such regulations;
NOW THEREFORE The Public Utilities Commission of the Town of Goderich enacts as
follows:
1 (a) No person being the owner or tenant of occupant of property shall permit water from
the municipal water system' to be used for the purpdses of washing, watering or irrigating
any lawn, garden, landscaped area, asphalt area, concrete area, or any other area of such
property; •
(b) No person having the apparent care and control of property shall permit water from
the municipal water system to be used for the purposes of washing, watering or irrigating
any lawn, garden, landscaped area, asphalt area, concrete area, or any other area of such
property;
(c) For the purposes of section 1(a), "owner” shall be deemed to include persons who
are shown as such on the then current assessment rolls for the Town of Goderich, or per-
sons who are registered owners of property as disclosed in the records of the Land Registry ,
Office.
2 This by-law shall be•deemed not to prohibit the otherwise lawful use of water from the
municipal water system during the months of January to May, both inclusive, and October
to December both inclusive in any calendar year. '
3 During the months of June, July, August and September in any year, this by-law shall
be deemed not prohibit the otherwise lawful use of water from the municipal water system
as follows:
• (a) Water may be used for all lawful purposes with respect to properties which lie entirely
to the east of an imaginary line drawn from the intersection of the centre line of North
Street withthe northerly boundary of the Town of Goderich; thence sougherly along the
centre line of North Street to its intersection with Court House Square; thence southerly
along the southerly production of the centre line of North Street of its intersection with
the northerly point of the centreline of South Street; thence southerly along the centre
line of South Street to its intersection with the southerly boundary of the Town of Goderich,
but only during the hours of 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time Monday, Wednesday and Friday
and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. local time Sunday in each week;
(b) Water may be used for all lawful purposes with respect to properties which lie entirely
to the west of the imaginary line described in section 3(a) but only during the hours of 6
p.m. to 9 p.m. local time Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. local time
Sunday in each week.
4 Notwithstanding Section 1 the commission, or its authorized officer, may by special per-
mit, permit the use of water from the municipal water system for all otherwise lawful pur-
poses on such terms and conditions as the Commission or Its authorized officer deems
advisable. Each of the Chairman, Vice -Chairman, Manager and Secretary of the Commis-
sion is deemed to be an authorized officer within the meaning of this by-law. Special per-
mits will be in a form silimar to that in attached Schedule "A" which forms a part of this
by-law.
5 Notwithstanding Sections 2, 3 and 4 of this by-law, in the event of a fire to which the
Town of Goderich Fire Department is called, no person being the owner, tenant, or occu-
pant. or having the apparent care and control of property, upon notification shall permit
water from the municipal water system to be used for the purposes of washing, watering
or irrigating any lawn, garden, landscaped area, asphalt area, concrete area, or any other
area of such propertyl
6 This by-law shall be deemed not to apply to The Municipal Corporation of the Town of
Goderich.
7 Anyone who contravenes this by-law is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction
to a fine of not more than 300 dollars.
8 By-law No. 19 of The Public Utilities Commission of the Town of Goderich passed on
the 15th day of June, 1978 is hereby repealed save with respect to proceedings which have
been commenced under By-law No. 19 prior to this date of final passage of this by-law.
9 This by-law may be referred to as "The Watering Control By-law'.
10 This by-law shall take effect from and after the date of its final passage.
