Sc Robertson School students devoted their fundraising efforti this year to a program which earned the school four sets of en- cyclopedias. Students raised $1,123.28 through a read-a-thon and World Book Encyc iodedias matched $1 for every $2 raised by County student winner at fair The region of Huron County was well represented in the winner's circle at the 26th annual Canada -Wide Science Fair, held between , May 10-17 in Mississauga, Ontario. a, • Tom Cull, a grade 8 student -at East Wawanosh School in Belgrave captured a Bronze Medal in the Junior . Physical Sciences' Cateory for his project entitled, -"Strength of _Construction". Cull also received a $100 cash award from Dow Chemical Canada Inc. Deri'ck: McGee, 'a Grade 8 student. at Zurich Public School in Zurich, Ontario won an Honorable Mention in the Junior Physical Science§ Category for his project entitled, "The Effect of Pitch an Diameter on Thrust". The 1987 Canada -Wide Science Fair at- tracted 400 student scientists from 76 regions acrossCanada to compete for $60,000. in cash, -awards, and scholarships. Each year, the Fair is sponsored by the Youth Science Founadation, a national, non-profit organization funded by federal governmentgrants, and individual and corporate donations. 4-1-1&s share 'pocket tips BY MELISSA LOGTENBERG The Port Albert Sew and Sews rnet en April 30, 1987 at Jean Blacks' for the fourth meeting of the Sewing Plus 4-I1 club. 'The 4-H Pledge was recited and the minutes were read before starting with the rollcall. The meeting was based on many tips used for pockets, collars,•cuffs, hems and lacing. • Meeting 5 Meeting .5 began with the rollcall, which followed with a discussion on button holes. Other buttons, lsuch as snaps, were shown to the members. The leaders then gave a •follow the signs" hand-out and everyone filled in the questionaire in the book. Home activities were then • assigned to the members., Next, the members made button and hem samples with instructions from the leaders. The next meeting was scheduled and the meeting was adjourned at 9 n.m. students, giving them a total of $1,684.92, enough for three World Book sets and one Childcraft set.
