Included along with the prints was a cheque to be used for the purchase of a tape recorder for the labour room. The, President, Mrs. E'. Reaburn opened the meeting welcoming all who then joined in the • Opening Ode, J'Iary' Stewart collect and 0 Canada with Mrs. G. Kaitting, Pianist. Buchanan read the interesting minutes of last meeting, correspondence was attended to and members decided to give a donation to the "Talking Book" of •the Huron County Library. Mrs. Lois Rowe gave a talk and demonstration on weaving covering on. lawn chair frames which was very in- teresting, attractive and of special interest to many. F.G. Braby, President will represent the Board of Management of the Perth -Huron Branch of VON. Pat Turnbull, will represent the nursing staff. 'The theme of this year's meeting will be VON The Future Is Ours. • The Victorian Order of Nurses has a long and distinguished history in Canada. This year marks the 90th Anniversary of the VON, The organization was founded in 1897 by Lady Aberdeen, wife of John Campbell Gor- don, the 7th Earl of Aberdeen and Governor General of Canada from 1883-1898. Today there are 33 Branches' of VON in the Pro- vince of Ontario. The Victorian Order of Nurses is a non- profit health organization which has been providing home nursing care to -t tlx citizens of Perth and Huron Counties. he best known function of the VON is to provide nur- sing services on a visit basis to. individuals and families in their own home.. Our June meeting, will be Thursday June 25th and plans are to have a Heritage Tea: Former members . please note this and plan' to attend and renew friendships. . A highlight of the meeting was the Plant ' Sale ' with Donna Yound and Dorothy Feagan in charge. Members agreed .to serve the Colborne Central School Graduation Dinner in June. The Colborne .Township • Recreation Committee had a splendid crowd at their card party Thursday May 28 and report scores: high lady - Adeline Allin, low lady - Ethel Goddard; high gent - Cecil Pollock, low gent, - Barb Pollock. Next card party, will be Thursday, June 11. .Mr.& Mrs. Reg. Riehl have ventured into goat farming and at present have a goodly number of goats. Last week one of the Nanny's gave birth to, four kids. •This is: something exceptional and well worth be- ing proud of. `Miracle of Springy' is topic Lou Bundy and her group were in charge when forty-five members and guests of the Evening Unit of North Street United Church Women met for their- May meeting. Lou Bundy chose the Miracle of Spring as hertheme, and opened our meeting with .a poem called Gardners' Creed.
