NIR. LORNE W. ROUGES
Mr. Lorne W. Hodges, of Goderich and
formerly of Goderich Township, died at
Maitland Manor on Tuesday, May 19 at the
age of 84.
Born in Goderich Township on July 1,
1902, he was the son of the late Robert W.
Hodges and the former Mary Ann Jewell.
He was a farmer in Goderich Township
until his retirement. He was a member of
Victoria Street United Church as well as
Benmiller Court No. 86 Canadian Foresters.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary'
May) Currell; two sons, Leonard and his
wife,' Eileen, and John and his wife Della, all
of Goderich Dorothy and her husband Bill
Ferguson, also of Goderich Township.
F"rftenn grandchildren. and 25 great-
grandchildren also survive.
He was predeceased by one brother
Orville.
The funeral service was held at the Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Thurs-
day, May 21 with Rev. Robert Ball of North
Street United Church officiating.
Benmiller Court No. 86 of Canadian
Foresters held a memorial service at the
funeral home Wednesday evening.
Flowerbearers were grandchildren
Bradley Hodges, Tressa Rodges, Lisa
Hodges and Colleen Rodges. Pallbearers
were grandsons Gerald Rodges, David
Hodges, Glenn Ferguson, Wayne Scott,
David Bean and Jim Campbell.
Interment in Maitland Cemetery.
MR. W. EARL RAITHBY
Mr. W. Earl Raithby, of Huronview and
formerly of Goderich, died at Clinton Public
Hospital on Tuesday, May 19 at the age of 90.
Born in Auburn on April 27, 1897, he was
the son of the late John Raithby and the
former Matilda Lansing. He was a farmer
in Auburn until his retirement. Mr: Raithby
was a member of First Baptist.Church.
. Surviving are his wife, the former Zelta
Atkinson) Young; son Bill and his wife Ciss
of Brantford; daughter Marie and h'er hus-
band Ken Petrie of Kincardine; step-
children, Mrs. Wilfred (Catherine) Gilders
of Goderich, Jim, Nelson and Roanld Young
all of Calgary and Norman Young of Port
Elgin. Seven grandchildren and two.great-
grand-daughters also survive. ,
He was predeceased by his first wife,
Alfretta Killough (in 1967 ), one sister, Mrs.
Mary Johnston and one brother, Frank.
The funeral service was held at the Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Friday,
May 22 with Rev. Gilbert Kidd of First Bap-
tist Church officiating. Special music was
provided by Mrs. Shirley McMillan. ,
Pallbearers were Don Campbell,. Allan
Petrie, Harold Bettger, Bruce Erskine, Bill
Chase and Bill Armstrong.
Interment in Ball's Cemetery.
MRS. MYRTLE HICKS
Mrs. Joseph Hicks, the former Myrtle
Evelyn Fulford, passed away in Pontiac,
Michigan on Saturday, May 2, 1987 in her
84th year.
Born in Colborne Township on July 3, 1904,
Myrtle was the daughter of the late George
and Adeline ( Stirling) Fulford and has lived
in sDet'roit since her marriage to Joseph
Hicks of Goderich Township in July of 1924.
He predeceased her in 1971.
She is survived by two daughters, Lenore
esday at age 84

Detroit, Michigan 18 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
She is also survived In one brother.

sister Pearl Mrs Ed Swift i of I.os Angeles,
California.
Predeceasing her, besides her husband.
were one sister Helen of RE( a Goderich and
brothers, Chester of Pittsburgh, Penn-
sylvania; Stirling and Ben of R1( 5
Goderich; and Louis of 11k Lake, Ontario
The funeral was held on Ma' li at the
Charles Step Funeral Home, Redford. Pon-
tiac., Nlic•higan with her minister. Dr. Robert
H. ('rilley of Fort Street Presbyterian
Church, Detroit, conducting the sere ice
Pallbearers were 'her grandsons and inter-
ment took place in Glen Eden Cemetery.
Those attending from Goderich were Mrs.
Theresa Fulford, Mrs. Dons Hicks and Mr.
and Mrs. L)an Pitblado.

EWAN (.'. ROSS
Ewan C. Ross, age 85, died May 1 in Alex-
andra Marine and General Hospital,
Goderich. He had been in poor health for the
last several years.
A native of Glengarry County, he came to
Huron County in 1939. He enlisted at London
with the Canadian Army in 1940 and was on
active service with,the 5th Armoured Divi-
sion for the duration. He suffered severe
shoulder injuries in a tank accident while in
England. In 1946, upon returning to Canada,
he worked as a licensed mechanic in
Goderich. He was with the quality control
department of Champion Road Machinery
before he was forced due to his war injuries
totakc early retirement at age 59.
Ewan worked in his spare time as' a
historian.for Eastern Ontario and was
author ad co-author of several books.. "A
History of Glengarry" is now a reference
book in libraries and universities..
On August 3, 1946, he and Esther Mac -
Math were married at Holmesville. He is
survived 'bv his wife and by a son W. John
and his wife, Bette, of Moose Factory, On-
tario; a step-grandaughter, Lisa Timmer -
mans, Peterborough; a sister. Edith I Mrs.
Lyall Symonds ) of Campbellford. His
brother, Gordon, predeceased him im 1984.
He was a member of Knox. Presbyterian
Church, Goderich, and of 'the Royal Cana-
dian Legion. A service was held by Branch
109 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion at -
the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home in
Goderich. The funeral service was con-
ducted by Rev. G.I.. 'tuyai of Knox
Presbyterian Church. .A solo, -Amazing
Grace•', was contributed by Bette Ross ac-
companied by Lorne Dotterer. On May 6,
friends and relatives gathered to pay their
respects at the McArthur Bros and MacNeil
Funeral Hurne, Cornwall, On May 7, a ser-
vice was conducted at St. Andrews United
Church, Martintown, by Rev. Clifford
Fauns. A solo, "How Great Thou Art", was
contributed by Mr. Ross's niece, Heather
Griffith ;,f Ottawa, and Arnold Murray, a
piper with the Glengarry Highlanders,
played Scottish airs before and after the ser- ,
vice. At' the graveside, the piper played
"My Glengarry Horne".
Burial took place in the North Branch
Cemetery near Martintown. In addition to
floral tributes, donations were received for
the Canadian Cancer Society and other
Charities.
Pallbearers were Ron Westlake of
Bayfield. nephew, Wayne Symonds of Mon-
treal and Lorne Russ of Ottawa, George
anbeek, Tom Curran and , Anarew
Harkness.of Glengarry ('aunty.

Leslie " Horatio Pentland, a resident of
Maitland Manor -Nursing Horne in Goderich,
died at the home on Monday, May 18 at the
age of 89.
Born in Nile on June 11, 1897, he was the
son of the late John Hadwin Pentland and
the former .Annie Maria Young. He was
predeceased by his wife, the former
Margaret Alberta Paltricdge, whom he mar-
ried in 1925,. '
Mr. Horatio was .a retired farmer and a
member of North Street United Church. He
was also a member and past -president of
the Morningstar Lodge No. 309.
Surviving are three daughters, Wilma
1 Mrs. Fulton Charlton r of Goderich, Ann
Mrs. James McArthur i of Sarnia, and Gail
Mrs.- Stewart Snider) of Waterloo. Three
grandchildren, Sonya Snider,•Luke Snider
and Susan McArthur, also survive.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by
one sister, Mrs: Gladys Dustow. and two
brdthers, Harvey and Lorne.
The funeral service was held at the. Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Wednes-
day, May 20 with Rev. Robert Ball of North
Street United Church officiating.
The Morningstar Lodge No. '309 A.F. and
A.M. held a service on Tuesday evening at
the home. • .
Pallbearers were Frank' Pentland,
Laverne Pentland, Duncan MacKay, Hugh
Feagan, Gerald Dustow and Jack Walker.
Interment in Dungannon Cemetery.

Kevin Bundy's parents are happy to an-
nounce ' that after 20 years of formal
schooling, he will finally begin a career as
a professsional actor. Kevin is a graduate
of GDCi, the University • of Western On-
tario and spent a summer at the Banff
School of Fine Arts. On May 1, he
graduated from the National Theatre
School in Montreal. He will begin his pro-
fessional career this summer at the Blyth
Festival with a part in Bordertown Cafe.
Congratulations Kevin from Mom, .Dad,
Rob, Rhonda, Elizabeth and Granny.
