More than 500 public school children par-
tici"p"ated in Sneaker Day on. Friday to kick-
off Canada's. Fitw•.eck activities in.
Goderich.
On Sneaker Day everyone is invited to •
wear their'sneakers to work, at play, cit.
school and at home. . "
. The children wore' their sneakers to
school andattended opening ceremonies in
Court House Square. The children parad-
ed twice around The Square and went back
to school:
Town Councillor Peter 'McCauley of-
ficially opened the l"itw•eek celebrations.
Recreation Director, .lane Netzke, said
the event was not too difficult to organize
or' too elaborate, but it VA/RS a lot of fun:
E'itbuck prizes were awarded to the
students for categories ranging from the
mot artistic to ,the most outrageous
sneaker.. Fitbuc.ks are redeemable for
merch=andise al participating Shoppers
Square and Suncoast Mall merchants.
E'itweek runs from 'May 22 to 31 and is an
annual celebration of physical aP:tivity.
Over 12,000 community and school events
will take place nation-wide. •(=oderich his

open houses. activities on The Square, in-.
dividual events and the Goderich Senior
(games, which will also be held in conjuc-
tinn with Fitw'eek.

various area schools took part in._parading around the square. to commemorate its' open-

St. Mary's: Christina Morley won for
brightest sneaker, Chris Dickson the most
colourful, Crystal Brennan had the hest
decorated sneaker, Mary- Crowley the
most 'original zinc' Bill Crowley was judged
{is having the most artistic sneaker.
Robertson school: The quality of the
sneakers at Robertson were judged accnr-
cling to grade'. The grade three winner was
Kelly McCabe, Steven 1.inklater won in
grade four, Lena Soots took top sneaker in,
grade five and two grade seven sneakers:
walked away with the title being given to
'I'onyu Gloucher and .len Hamilton.
