urn residents celebrate wedding anniversary

Mrs. Bonnie Armour and Julia, Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Jardin and cannily of Kitchener
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin
and Mrs. Elva Straughan,
Marjorie McDougall returned home from
a visit with her son Allan and family, Laura,
Angie Shane and Marcia of Sudbury.
Congratulations to Mr. and•Mrs. Charles
Merrill who celebrated. their 20th wedding
anniversary with an open house at the
Auburn Conununit,' Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Weston of Toronto are
holidaying; with her mother Mrs, Rollison
' and brother Murray. •
Mrs.. Earl Whightrnan of Lucknow and
Mr. Harvey Whigh.tman of Waterloo visited
recently with Ellen Johnston and Laura
Phillips. •
Congratulations to Dana and Joyce Bean
of Auburn on the birth of a son in Clinton
Public Hospital on Sunday, May 17. '
Sympathy is extended to the relatives of
the late Earl Raithby who passed•away last
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Mr. and
Mrs. Greg Park visited last weekend with
William Anderson of Newmarket and at-
tended the Anne Murray concert.
Mr. Harold Beechler of RR 3 Auburn
returned home on Saturday from Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital following
surgery last 'Tuesday. -He is wished a
speedy recovery., •
Horticulture Society
The Horticulture Society meeting was
.held Wednesday night.May 13 at the Auburb
Community Hall with a good attendance.
The vice-president Mrs. Maurice Bean
' chaired the meeting and welcomed all pre
sent. ' The meeting opened with 0 Canada
with Mrs. Don Haines as pianist:
Kay Lapp introtiueecl the, speaker, Miss
•Tammy Shuttleworth who was- crowned
Queen at the Huron"County Junior Farmers
on May 2: She gave her speech and stated
that you learn a lot, meet new friends, new
skills by being a' member. of the •Junior..
Farmers organization. She also gave a
• monologue which was very interesting.
The minutes were read, by the secretary
Anne Vincent and the treasurer's report was
given by Ell. Lapp. He stated that there
were 134 members so far in the society. ,
Mrs. Maurice Bean called Mrs. Margaret
Robinson to th'e front and Marian Haggitt
spoke afew .words of Margaret's past duties
in the society and other work she and her
late husband Ross had done around the
• village and presented her with a gift.
Margaret replied and thanked all. She now
*resides in Goderich.
Reports were given from the District An-
nual which was held at Seaforth April 4 by
Anne Vincent and Mrs Bean. They stated
that the one speaker had .spoke on
dandelions, that it was pretty, can be eaten
and tea was 'made- from it. Also on raised
beds, Anne explained this by pictures she
had drawn and there would be no weeds in
planting this way. Mrs. Bean also gave tips
.on flowers from that meeting and stressed
that everyone should try to go to these
meetings as you can learn so much from the
speakers. She also spoke on Downtown
. Heritage of the Main Street in Seaforth. •
Roll call was answered by garden tips and
something new you were trying this year.

Door prizes wre drawn. A lovely geranium
donated by Bill and Maxine Seers was won
by Shannon McClinchey. Others to Dorothy
Grange and Chris Korstanje. Business con-
tained flower beds and planting and water-
ing of the baskets and help for doing these
things. There was a large plant sale with
auctioneers being Lois Haines and Kay
Lapp and the sale brought $88. Lunch was
served ,by Mrs. Tom Lawlor, Mrs. Violet
'trnin and Mrs. Viola Raithby and a social
time was enjoyed. •
WMS
The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian
WMS was held at the. home of . Mrs. Don
Cartwright. The president Mrs. Martha
Daer presided and gave' the call to worship.
The devotional period was in charge of Mrs.
Marion Haggitt who read the gospel for the
thrid Sunday after Easter followed by
prayer. A poem was read by Martha Daer,
The guest speaker Mrs. McAlister gave an'
interesting account of the Presbyterial
meeting held in Listowel recently. A get
welltard was signed by all present for Mrs.
Jean Andrews. The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Carol Daer on June 9 at 8
p.m.
Cancer Society Campaign
The Cancer Society Campaign in the
Auburn Community arnounted to $1,549.
Sincere thanks to all . those who were so
generous when'the canvassers called and
also the canvassers who gave so generously
of their tie. The canvassers were Eunice,
Arthur, E1 Ball,, Linda Durnin, Kay
Lapp, Jennifer' Lutz, Viola Raithby, Bessie
Slater, Christine Shuttleworth, Anne Vin-
cent and Frances Clark.
4-H Club
A 4-H meeting of the Auhurn Stitcheroos
was held on May 6 at the home of Glenyce
McClinchey. For meeting four; we discuss-
ed sewing techniques for collars, seams and-
hems.
nd-hems. Meeting five was an information
meeting,about different'types of closures we
'could use for our shirts. We chose a. title
page for our club which was designed' by
Glenyce McClinchey. We also read infor-
mation concerning laundry tips. Meeting
sixwas also held on May 6 at 8 p.m. 'All
members practised "being the judge" as we
judged different pencils, scissors and Shirts.
This is the last meeting,of the Auburn Stit-
cheroos. The 4-H Achievement Program,
will be on June 2 at the F.E. Madill school in
Wingham.
' Knox Church
The youth group of the church conducted
the morning service at Knox United Church.
Organ prelude was. by.Mrs.,'Gordgn Gross.
Call to worship was given by Rose Marie
Young._ The Prayer of Invocation was given
by Lori Armstrong. She also gave the life
and work of the church. The hymn "In
Christ there is no east or west" was sung.
The prayer of confession was read by Karen
Bakker. Words of assurance was by Julia
Cunningham. The youth group sang "Lord

make us worthy" with Mrs. Gordon Gross
as pianist.
Angela Schneider read the holy word
which was from John 15: 12-17. The
children's" hymn "Jesus friend of littel
children" was sung. Leona Cunningham
told the children's story and they went to
junior congregation with teachers Mrs.
Teadde Bakker, Karin Bakker and Kerry
Bakker. Devotional thoughts were given by
Tamrny Shuttleworth who spoke of friend-
ship. The prayer of commitment and con-
cern were given by Nicole Middelkanip.
The hymn "Blest be the ties" was sung.
The offertorylpt'a.yer was read by Angela
Schneider and the offering was received by
Anita Gross, Janice • Cunningham, Rose
Marie Young and Lori Armstrong. Tammy
Shuttleworth pronounced the benediction
and the, service closed with the congrega-
tional benediction "Lord We Pray". We are
proud of the youth group for their excellent
service.
Women's Institute
The monthly meeting of the Women's In-
stitute was held at the Community Hall on
Tuesday, May 19 at 2 p.m. The topic was
public relations by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer.
The president, • Mrs. Len Archambault,
chaired the ' meeting, welcoming all and
opening the meeting with a poem entitled
"May„
The Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and 0
Canada were sung with Marjorie McDougall
as pianist.. There were 11 members and two
guests present.
The minutes and financial statments were
given by the secretary Mrs. Robert Peck.
Correspondence was read and dealt wtih. .
Card reports was given by Lillian
Leatherland. A social time for games og
euchre and scrabble followed. Jane Peck
was high lady and Mildred Lawlor was low
lady. A card was signed by all for Dorothy '
Bennett. •
Mrs. Lawrence .Plaetzer, introduced the
guest "speaker, Huron County Dairy Princes
Angela Nethery. She spoke . on milk and
cream products and on the disease
osteoporosis. She gave a story on ice cream.
and also her life as being a dairy princess.
She had a quiz for us also. She read a poem
on the "Road of life". She gave us each a
copy of booklets on milk and osteoporosis
'and also for a cheese dip which we all had a
taste of later. This was a very interesting
tall. Mrs. Elliot Lapp thanked her and
presented her with a gift. Collection ..was
received. • '
Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer, Mrs. Lillian
Leatherland and Mrs. Elliot Lapp served
ice-cream and cake and a Social'time closed'
the meeting. Prizes at lunch were won by
Marjoriex„McDougall, Mildred Lawlor and
Ruth Jardin.
