The GDCI Senior Vickings lost a home
game for ,the first time in over three
seasons of Huron -Perth Conference soccer
play when they dropped a 3-2 decision to
the Stratford Central Ramblers here last
Wednesday.
The Ramblers are on top of the league
standings with a perfect 7-0 record. The
Vikings have four wins and a tie to go with
their one loss, but another "no decision"
game, which was not completed earlier in
the season when the Vikings and the Strat-
ford Northwestern Huskies each had three
players red -carded, may leave the Vikings
scrambling for a spot in the playoffs. Only
four ofthe eleven teams in the league
qualify for the playoffs, so the Vikings'
final game of the schedule today (Wednes-
day) in Palmerston against the Norwell
Redmen is pretty much a "must -win"
situation for the Vikings.
The.. Vikings played very well against
Stratford Central, but the Rams got the
breaks they needed to, keep their winning
streak intact.
The Vikings led 1-0 at halftime as the
result of a fine long run by right outside
Bob Barwick who made a good cross for in-
side Paul Nivins to finish off.
The Rams got the equalizer early in the
second half on a questionable free kick
awarded to them just outside the Goderich
18 yard line. Paul O'1-tagan scored the
Stratford goal.
The Rams then carne on with two more
goals as the Vikings seemed to sag. Pat
Murray and Joe Voros got the ball by Vik-
ing keeper Larry Leppington within a
minute of each other.
The Vikings regained their momentum
in the latter stages of .thesecond half. Todd
Graham was fouled inside the penalty area
and scored on a penalty kick to pall the
Vikings within one goal, but they could not
get the equalizer before time ran out.
Centre half Jergen Schulz had a strong
game for the Vikings and Tom Bean, in his
first game of the season, added greatly to
the,Vikings offensive potential.
