Born in Toronto on October 26, 1902, she was the daughter of the late John Marshall and the former Clara Watts. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Diane Me - Connell of Toronto and Bette and her hus- band Ken Lee of Blyth. Grandchildren Kevin, Karin and Kim Lee also survive. She was predeceased by her husband John Arnold McConnell' and brother Jack Marshall. The funeral service was held at the Mc- Callum and Palla FuneralHome on Sunday, May 17 with Rev. GI." Royal of Knox Presbyterian Church officiating. Pallbearers were Ken I.ee, Murray Mc - Cannell, Wayne McConnell,'John MacKay, Sandy Anderson and Francis Pronse. Inter- ment in Maitland Cemetery., OBITUARIES MRS. MYRTLE HICKS Mrs. Joseph Hicks, the former Myrtle Evelyn Fulford, passed away in Pontiac, Michigan on Saturday, May 2 in her 84th year. Born in Colborne Township on July 3, 1904, Myrtle was the daughter of the late George and Adeline (Stirling ) Fulford and has lived in Detroit since her marriage to Joseph Hicks of Goderich Township in July, 1924. He predeceased her in 1971. She is survived by two daughters, Lenore ( Mrs. Miles Adams) and Shirley (Mrs. Walter Pivetta) ; two sons, Bill and Don; all of Detroit, Michigan; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also • survived by one. brother, Harold of Smyrna Beach, Florida; and one sister, Pearl ( Mrs. Ed Swift) of Lose ANDERSON .To Larry and Judy Anderson, Winnipeg, a baby girl, Shari. Lynn, born May 14, 1987 weighing 6 lbs. 7 ozs. A sister for Tabitha. Grandparents are Helen Anderson, Win- nipeg, Fred Anderson, Goderich and Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, Winnipeg. Great grand- daughter for Hazel and Dawson Craig, Auburn. The funeral was held on May 6 at the Charles Step Funeral Home, Redford, Pon- tiac, Michigan with her minister -Dr. Robert H. Crilley• of Fort Street Presbyterian Church, Detroit conducting the service. Pallbearers were her grandsons and inter- ment took place in Glen Eden Cemetery. Those attending from Goderich were Mrs. Theresa Fulford, Mrs. Doris Hicks and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pitblado. As vessels began moving for another navigation season, it was reported that the -Canadian Wheat Board wants to move six million tonnes of grain this spring. The familiar red, white •and black markings of the Algoma Central Railway's Marine Division are being car- ' ried this year on four more vessels as the Sault Ste. Marie company expands its fleet. Three ships fron Nipigori Transport • •Ltd. and one from Carryore. Ltd.. have joined Algoma Central and are. gradually being given their new colors. Ex-Nipigon ships Lake Manitoba, Lake Wabush and Lake Nipigon have been renamed Algomarine, Captain Henry Jackman and Algonorth, respectively. The former Carol Lake of Carryore is now Algocape. The.Jacknian name, incidentally, is believed to be the grandfather of the' line's chairman of ,the 'board. Algoma Central also has renamed the A.S. Glossbrenner (now Algogulf) and V.W. Scully (Algosotind I. These two were built in the mid-1960s and comprised the fleet of Labrador Steamship Co. Ltd. The Algosound was launched with the lyrical name Don de Dieu, translated as "Gift of God". * * * Also under new house flags arethe former tankers of Ha,lco Inc., Montreal. Enerchem Transport Inc.,, also of that ci- ty, is a new tanker company on the lakes. One of its owners is a former Halco ex- ecutive. In 1985, Halco had six tankers in its fleet. * * * With the departure from active service last year of the Imperial Sarnia, Imperial Oil's tanker fleet is now pretty, well con- centrated on the East and West Coasts. It is reported that the company is moving its marine department from Toronto to Halifax for this reason. However; Im- perial Quebec°and Imperial Bedford may .make runs out of Sarnia this season. Im- perial Sarnia is expected to be towed from her current berth at Hamilton to Nanticoke on Lake Erie to be used for bunker service under a new name. Her owner is now Provmar. •It is now well known that collingwood shipyards have closed for good after more than a century of building over 200 • vessels. It was a sign of the times with shipping and shipbuilding at a low economic point, worldwide. But the closing may mean continuing prosperity tor building and repair facilities at Port Weller Dry Docks, St. Catharines. Owner of the Collingwood yard, The CSL Group Inc. has bought into the Port Weller yard; a subsidiary of ULS Interna- tional Inc. The outcome of all this is a new company, Canadian Shipbuilding and Engineering (1986) Limited, jointly own- ed by CSL and ULS with headquarters in St. Catharines. The Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue cutter Sora which has covered western Lake Erie since 1983 is being replaced by an upgraded vessel. " Given the same name as her predecessor, the craft was built in 1982 by Canadian Dredge & Dock Ltd.,' Kingston, and served on the West Coast under the name Osprey. She is expected to be based at Amherstburg w ith a duty crew, on stand- by at all times, ready to respond within 30 minutes of receiving a distress call.
