Ride for Sight, an annual national motor-
cyle rally which raises funds for research
into eye disorders, takes place for the fifth
year on the weekend of June 13-14. Ride for
Sight is the largest known motorcycle rally
for a common 'cause in the world.
John and Emely Coultis, of Varna, are
Ride for Sight co-ordinators for this area.
They were at the Suncoast Mall in Goderich
on the weekend making the public aware of
Ride for Sight, obtaining donations for eye
research and fielding questions from in-
terested motorcyclists about the ride.
Although this is the fifth year for the ride
throughout Canada, this. is the first year a
ride has been organized from this area,
Emely Coultis said.
The local ride will commence Friday,
June 12 with a camp -out at Hully Gully,
sponsors of the local ride, for all interested
motorcyclists. The ride to Minden, On-
tario,(about 250 miles from Hully Gully),
where are the Central Ontario motorcycle
groups will meet, will officially begin at 8
a.m. Saturday, June 13. The local ride will
travel from Hully Gully to Minden via
highways 8, 401 and 35.
"We are hoping to leave with 100 motor-
cycles. It should be about a four and one-
half hour ride with three stops along the
way. We will be riding in staggered groups
along the highway and the PPP will be
notified of our proposed route," Coultis said.
Once the group has arrived in Minden,
they will take part in a camp -out with
similiar groups from across Central On-
tario. An estimated 2,500 motorcyclists are
expected to gather at the Minden campsite
this year.
The ride.is held annually across Canada to
raise research money for study of Retinitis
Pigmentosa (RP) disorders. RP is the
name for a closely related group of retinal

Goderich District Collegiate students
and members of the public are invited to
share in a little "madness" of sorts.
However local parents need not fear for
the sanity of their children who choose to
particpate. MOGA (Most Outrageous
Group Activity) Madness is a program
organized by a group of students from the
Ottawa area: Though it has been in opera-
tion for several years, this year is the first
time a local effort has been arranged.
It's a competition of sorts, though -the on-
ly prize is a giant pink sneaker, for high
school students across Canada.
Carol MacEwan, oneof the local student
organizers said events will include a "Lap -
walk" in which participants form a long
line, sit in the lap of the person behind
them and attempt to walk, and a ""Human
Domino," line. A good old-fashioned Bird
Dance -will also take place and the spelling
out of "GDCI Vikings," with human bodies
will round out the morning's activities.
The event, part of local Fitness Week ac-
tivities, will take place at the GDCI foot-
ball field May 29, at 11 a.m. The public is
invited to attend and participate.

eye disorders which cause vision to
deteriorate and frequently lead to blindness.
In Canada, more than 100,000 people are af-
fected by the disease. RP eye conditions are
irreversible and, because the retina is con-
nected to the brain, transplants and surgery
are not possible based on present day scien-
tific knowledge. Through Ride for Sight,
dedicated motorcyclists across . Canada
have raised over $1.3 million for the RP Eye
Research Foundation.
The goal for the Central Ontario Rally is
$250,000 to $350,000. Emely Coultis said she
hopes the motorcyclists taking part in the
local ride will raise between $7,000 and
$10,000.
