Fitweek, May 22-31, is in its fifth year and is growing in popularity and participa- tion. Last year more than 12,000 events were held. The message this year is 'It's your move' and it is an invitation to come out and join the fun. Jane Netzke, recreation director, said ano.,t of the local activities are free or any tee covers cost. In addition the Goderich Senior Games will be held in conjunction with Fitweek. The Recreation Department has organized the activities in four areas: open houses, activities on The Square, Goderich Senior Games and individual events. For more' information concerning events, times and registration call the Rereati - Office at 524-2125. A flyer will be distributed to every household in town giving detailed information. Individual Events May 17— Family bike ride at 1:30 p.m.. Meet at Court House Park for map of route and information. The ride is sponsored by the Huron County Health Unit and Rec Department. May 22— Sneaker day 3:00 p.m. at Court House Park. Students from all three public schools are encouraged to wear sneakers and they will parade around The Square and back to school. Prizes will be awarded for the most outrageous sneaker. Students wearing sneakers will also be ad- mitted to roller skating for half price. May 26- Elderobic Moonwalk 1:30 p.m.. Senior Citizens all over Canada take part in organized walks and their miles are totalled and hopefully add up to enough to travel to the moon. The MacKay Centre is organizing the local walk and forms and route maps are available at the centre. May 27— Get Wet Day. The Recreation Department is organizing a bus for a childrens swim at Vanastra. The swim is 6:00 to 7:30 and the bus leaves the Rec Of- fice around 5:30 Mogo Madness is a contest for high school students. GDCI students will dream up the most outrageous activity such as human dominoes, lap walk and bird dance. • The no holds barred competition will be heldat the GDCI athletic field. The Public is welcome. May 31— Kite Festival will be held at Point Farms Provincial Park and is a day of kite making and flying. Cost is for materials only and children are asked to pre - register. Open Houses Sponsored by The Goderich Recreation Department and the public is -invited to come out and observe and participate in various activities such as areobics, karate, and tennis from May 25 to May 30. May 26— Karate and Tai Chi demonstra- tions 5:00 p.m. by the Goderich Shotokan Karate Brotherhood and the Stratford Tai Chi School. May 27— Jump rope for Heart demostra- tion and participation. Bring along your skipping rope and there will be celebrity skippers. May 28— After work aerobics plus fitness class 4:45 to 5:45 p.rn, May 29— Recreational Bike Hike. Enjoy a leisurely ride around town, register and receive your maps on The Square. All participants will receive Canada's Fitweek 'Fit Bucks', redeemable for mer- chandise from participating Shopper's. Square 'merchants. Goderich Senior Games The games will be held in conjunction with Fitweek and includes events such as bridge, cribbage, darts; euchre, five pin bowling,. golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard and tennis. Winners advance to the district games in Seaforth June 22-23. The Provincial Games will not be held this year. Safe at second. The Goderich Mens Slow Pitch league kicked off Sunday with six games.
