P1) Day on May 4 was fun and relaxing for
the students at home. The teachers found it
fun and stimulating as we launched an in-

Huron County Board of Education. Every
employee of the system was at Wingham at
F.E. Madrill S.S. for an excYiting day.

Cheese sales
Grade 7A. at RMPS wants to thank again
all those wonderful neighbours and friends
who purchased cheese during the cheese
drive last week, We hit our porjected goal
and the costs to go to Camp Sylvan will be
minimal for each student if there is any cost
at all. Itis really inspiring to know so many
friends of RMPS want to support the
students when they work hard for something
worthwhile. Camp will be a lot more ex-
citing because, our community was behind
us. Thanks. Andrew McLarty sold the most
cheese with an order of $481..50, followed by
Chuck Peterson with an order of $240,511
The cheese will be in on May 12 ( approx-
imately )' and will be delivered immediately.
Thanks Goderich, you're good to us!'

spring is here, so does the proliferation of
test and projects tell us thatthe end of the

Smoking to be
restricted in
work places
Federal Labor Minister Pierre H. Cadieux
recently announced major new measures,
both short and long term, to ,restrict smok-
ing in work places subject to federal
jurisdiction.
"I am taking these initiatives," Mr.
Cadieux 'stated, "to protect workers from
the potential hazards of exposure to second
hand tobacco smoke.
"As an immediate measure," the
Minister said, "I am requesting employers
to restrict smoking in their workplaces to
designated areas by the end of 1987, as a pro-
tective health measure for their
employees." .
Secondly, as a long term measure, the
Minister stated that he will ask the joint
Tabor -industry -government Review Com-
a mittee on Technical Revisions to the
Regulations under Part TV of the Canada
Labor Code to develop a new regulation
'regarding smoking in the work place, and to
have it ready to take effect in 1989.
"My personal hope," said the Minister,
"is that the review committee will look
seriously into banning smoking altogether."
The Minister further noted that these in-
itiatives are part of a comprehensive
government policy on tobacco, and that they
complement the plans of the Minister of Na-
tional. Health and Welfare to introduce
legislation in the House of Commons to ban
the advertising and promotion of tobacco
products, as well as initiatives announced
today by .the President of the Treasury
Board with regard to the Federal Public
.S`ervice.
"I am asking that all employees under
federal jurisdiction be understanding of
fellow employees who smoke," said Mr.
Cadieux, "and I encourage non-smokers to
help their smoking colleagues to adjust to
the new -measures."
The Minister said he is confident these
major new initiatives will have both im-
mediate and long-lasting benefits for' the
900,000 workers employed in about 33,000
work places throughout Canada that are
covered by Part IV of the Canada Labour
Code.
